    18 years later

And the novelty of broadband still hasn't worn off. Best invention ever? I remember vividly to that day when I got my cable modem back in '95 and started playing some diablo. Geocities websites would load up so damn quick...don't even get me started on my joy of discovering napster.

The day I stopped having to wait for images to load almost line by line was one of the most awesome things on a computer.

Internet? Hell, I remember the day my dad brought home a CD-ROM for our PC. It will forever be vivid in my mind, lol.

Kazaa, man I totally forgot about that. I could only remember Napster in like 1999 and then later Limewire in like 2002.

18 years though? I don't remember when I got broadband. I was certainly on "the internet" back in 1994 and 1995 through Prodigy. I remember going to Final Fantasy 3 websites on Geocities and downloading MIDI files. Through Prodigy it would download distinct 4kb blocks every couple seconds. Painful slow.

I can't wait for Fiber. The future is going to be so awesome.

Oh, and instant messenger. Back when I signed up for my AoL Instant Messanger account, nicknames were limited to 10 characters.

The earliest modem where I knew the speed was a 14.4kbps modem. But I was using Prodigy Online in the 80s, so I must have had a 9600 bps modem.

I remember the first time I saw an ISDN line and how it loaded a Geocities page in like 3 seconds. It was really impressive at the time.
'Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers clogged with rotting red
And there they lay I damn me eyes
    All lookouts clapped on Paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

I remember the first CD I ever saw was a freebie from Coke that was attached to a 12-pack of cans. CD... WTF is this thing for? I was in like 7th grade when the whole AoL boom was happening with the 10 free hours discs everywhere.

Ahhh nostalgia, I was rummageing through a box of junk in my attic and found a AOL verson 1.0 hard disk then it got me thinking about the very first dial up internet service we had and my mom yelling "Get off the internet I need to make a call."

You had a cable modem in 95...I didn't get a PC till 2001.

I remember first getting our modem and seeing pages load what equated to instant back then.

For me it was using dial up on my new 386 computer and connecting through trials of AOL and Prodigy. I so got yelled at for tying up the phone lines. The funniest was looking up NFL scores and seeing them about 15 minutes behind the actual game. And then going on chat and finding out about MP3's........
Porn was funny one day when looking at it and someone knocked on my door. I forgot to close the screen so as I'm chatting with my hall monitor is seeing a naked girl all over my screen. Ya that was embarrassing.

My early internet memories are pretty much spending days on MSN, Yahoo, or AIM instant messenger services with my friends or playing those crappy yet awesome internet games. That and lots of Homestarrunner lol. All on a 500KBps line from our cable company I thought that was the shit! Now I have 30MBps lol

god I used to hate the ICQ message sound sooooooooooo much, then found out every messenger program has its own extremely annoying sound. still such programs paved the way.
