lvling ele with cloth BoA's viable?

hey, pretty much as the title says, want to start leveling an ele shammy, but thought the mail caster boa's would be a bit of waste, where as the cloth ones i can use later for lock, mage and priest, my only concern is will the reduced armour totally gimp me? or wont it even matter? any input from people that have tried cloth BoA's would be appreciated

You will be just fine, the lack of armour value is irrelevant. The only issue you will encounter is at 50 when you gain Mail Specialisation which increases your Intellect by 5% when wearing all mail pieces.
But even then you'll be fine and leveling fast to the point of outgrowing the heirlooms so I wouldn't worry about it. By that time, if you're still playing your main, you may have amassed the JP needed to get the mail heirlooms anyway.

If you have a decent geared tank alt(490-505 or higher), you can do 1 HC in under 10 mins easily, the longer heroics(SoNT/SPM) in under 15. Each boss gives 150 JP

Im in a process of lvling my ele shammy in cloth heirlooms and for dungeons/questing cloth is 100% fine, you won't even feel 5% int loss from mail specialization because chain lighting will grant you no.1 dps in most of the dungeon groups you are in anyway.
For pvp you will feel squishy, especially against rogues and warriors but I only did BGs to break the routine and tbh i was mostly having fun with thunderstorm anyways, so dont need gear for that That moment when you knock 5+ players off the flag spawn in Eye of the storm - priceless...

Yes, its fine. I did it with my shaman. Stats dont matter before max lvl anyway. As long as u get the increased exp, its all good.

It's fine, I'm leveling my hunter in leather agi looms. The only thing you are missing basically is a free 5% stats buff at lvl 50 and some armor...nothing ground breaking

Leveled my Blood DK in the cloth heirlooms in Wrath because I didn't have the plate ones yet.

You wear them for the XP boost first, the scaling stats second.

when i lvled my sham, i used the cloth boas, i didn't feel a need to get mail boas. i was a stupid OP healer and with the huge crit amount on the gear i had near infinite mana. you will be 100% fine with cloth baos. however by 77ish pick up mail cata greens before going to into cata and those boas become obsolete.

If you have upgraded your (cloth) heirlooms to 1-85, they should be fine through most, if not all, of Cata content. Definitely upgrade to all mail ASAP in Pandaria--if nothing else, fairly early in Jade Forest you will unlock vendors (Horde / Alliance) who sell a full set of 372 greens.

It's not a problem at all, you only miss out on 5% int and a bit of armor.

I leveled a prot pally and a blood DK in leather agil BoA's. Didn't have any complaints until Cata content, but i mostly quested through that.
