Rift Going Free to Play

Damnit, i was going to come back and play in a few weeks, but it's been announced it's going f2p. While that's a good thing for some people from my point of view it doesn't look very good.



I hope the game continues being popular, if not more popular for a long time as it's an excellent game!

Damn, totally unexpected, a lot of people did expect Rift to eventually go down this road but this soon?

Oh well, going to examine all the releases, see is it going to still be the policy of releasing constant, regular, quality content

At least we know what Update 2.3 is called "Empyrean Assault" and will be released on June 12th

When they say gear, I'm going to take a stab at one or two (possibly both) things: Leveling gear and wardrobe/cosmetic - which is OK I guess.

I didn't see this one coming but I think it is good. In my opinion Rift is an excellent game and amazing graphics and those who have had the slightest interest should try it out

Really annoyed its coming so soon, I thought they would of respected their customers who paid for 1 yr sub with SL and waited till it around renewal time.
Also if that's the case for 2.3 launch date then fuck knows how long we have to wait for more 20man raids to arrive its much to long a time to wait.

the dev video sounds a bit misleading to me though, they go on about playing with your friends and then say you can do instances,raids etc(around the 0.55 mark) - but surely u cant do all that at lvl 20 and noly have access to what, 1-2 dungeons at most???

Nah, that's RIFT Lite.

That was made a year after the game came out due to people wanting to test it.

They've removed that model now with the new update.

That's the current model. They just announced on June 12th it'll be free to 60 (and beyond presumably), full access to dungeons and raids. The only lingering question is what will be in the cash shop; mounts I don't mind, but if you can buy gear with stats (as opposed to just cosmetic gear) that will be a huge issue for everyone.

This is Rift lite. And it have been here for ages.
Now the whole game is going F2P
