Heroic raid ID - Need help/info

Here is the case:

One of our main tank left the guild and HC Animus was a 2 day wipefest with our new low geared recruit tank.
The main goal is to down Lei Shen finally this week, so to avoid Animus the raid leader extended the lockout last night before the reset.

Is it possoble to kill the first few bosses in HC mode without the raidleader and his extended ID, then join to him, accept the animus kill save and continue that raid? Can we mix HC raid IDs or we are locked as soon as the first boss is dead?

You can't mix HC raid IDs.

You could theoretically kill everything up until and including Dark Animus on NORMAL mode and then join your raid leader's HC id (your raid leader can't accompany you to your normal mode kills though because in his ID, those bosses are all dead on heroic already). Because normal kills don't set IDs. Heroic kills do, however, give you a set raid ID.

For example: You go and waltz into ToT and kill Jin'rokh heroic and maybe you even kill a few bosses after that too, on normal, heroic, whatever. The moment that you killed your first heroic boss in the instance: Tada, slapped an ID number on you. Then imagine your raid leader invites you into his extended ID from the previous week and goes into the instance. You try to follow but you'll find yourself alone in ToT. Your raid leader will be in a different instance than you, in a different ID. Because he has the ID from the "We killed Dark Animus hc raid" whereas you have your own "I killed Jin'rokh hc and then some" ID. Since those IDs don't match, you can't enter the same instance and therefore you cannot raid together.

Thanks for the info Seriss, I suspected as much but never had confirmation before.

We are extending the lockout tonight for Lei Shen Heroic, but will have 3 or 4 people sitting out - so they are able to join the team 2 run and as long as they only kill up to Twin Consorts normal, they'd still be able to join the main team Lei Shen Heroic raid on Sunday?

Sounds like a plan to me
