Dunno but I'm sure item level and raid achievements affect it.

Isn't there a ticked box "I am willing to be leader" in the queue window. If someone has it ticked system will moste likely give it to him. If no one ticked it, it's probably random. I highly doubt it's anything to do with ilevel/ achis.

Yes it does. On my crap alts I'm never the leader, but always on my main unless there are some real hardcore raiders in the group. Explain that.

tanks get it from my experience

seems pretty random between the tanks. I have been paired with some tanks that are way below me and they were the "leader".

Im under the impression that when you join as a premade group the leader of you group gets it (if there is no bigger group)

My experience was the opposite, we used to do guild runs in LFR when they were first released and queue premade with usually 18-22 people and not even once was our premade leader the leader when we joined.

Pretty sure it's the first person to accept the queue who is leader. I'm leader on LFR nearly 80% of the time (became a joke in my guild "guess who speak in red again ?") and I click very fast.

I really doubt that. I've been in a lot of LFRs with my main (fully hc/hctf geared) where the leader is some crap geared character without any achievements.

No idea for LFR, but I would assume LFD gives it to the tank by preference. I liked that bit from Rift: The tank was always made the group leader.

Nah because I'm 551 iLevel and I have tons of raid achs, and I still get fresh 90s taking away that sexy leader color.

AFAIK, It's randomized based on players who have the leader icon selected. Also for both, if you're in a small premade group, you have N chances to be the leader if you're the leader of your premade (where N = # of players in your group, so queueing with 15 for LFR with you as the leader gives you 15 in 25 chances to be the leader assuming everyone has the flag icon selected).

If you really do care about being the leader, always go in with a premade, no matter how small.
Still wondering why I play this game.
I'm a Rogue and I also made a spreadsheet for the Order Hall that is updated for BfA.
