looking up to buy a new pc (uk)

Hi there so as the title says, Im looking to currently buy a new pc in the UK on a budget of max £600 or so that will run wow at the higher end of settings at 25 man etc. Currently im running on a pc with AMD FX(tm)-4100 quad core @ 3.60gz, 4gb ram and AMD Radeon 7850 gpu. Id really prefer to just buy one or at least have it pre built by order. Mainly looking to run wow on it as i said but, goin to also use it for other games.

Is there a reason you'd prefer not building it? It's pretty easy, and will be a fair bit cheaper (or straight up better, for the same price)

In the meantime, moving this to the build/upgrade subforum!
    Gaming: Dual Intel Pentium III Coppermine @ 1400mhz + Blue Orb | Asus CUV266-D | GeForce 2 Ti + ZF700-Cu | 1024mb Crucial PC-133 | Whistler Build 2267
    Media: Dual Intel Drake Xeon @ 600mhz | Intel Marlinspike MS440GX | Matrox G440 | 1024mb Crucial PC-133 @ 166mhz | Windows 2000 Pro

You anywhere near Cardiff? The reason I ask is that my computer whizz friend (PhD in Electrical Engineering) built my computer for me 4 years ago or something knowing I'd use it 98% of the time to play WoW and knocked it together for about £600 including the £220 monitor... so about £380.

I've no idea what its spec is but I've been raiding 25 mans on it pretty flawlessly with maybe 1 or 2 fps spike spots (If we pull Nazgrim with adds for example) but otherwise its lush.

I would be surprised if you couldn't buy a more powerful machine now for the same price, that is usually how these things work.

The reason I prefer to not build is I just don't feel I have that much experience to put it together myself. Id just prefer to have it bought but, if it maybe is as big a difference as you say i could consider it. And no im nowhere near cardiff

Can you build a pc just by looking on the internet? I want to build my own pc and like Blackdumb I don't know jack about it. The profit you can make by building it yourself though, seems decent enough to consider the effort to build it yourself. Problem is I don't have anything, not even a screwdriver. Ofcourse I can get that at a local store but are there more things needed to buy to build one?

Do you need an operating system/peripherals?

http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/ isnt a bad place. Can 'customise' the build yourself but they build it.

The only tool you would need is this:

The tip must be + not -

1hour 30min long video how to build PC (for the record I didn't watch it, but it should cover everything in detail):
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zOYdNEHDQo

If you know how to twist your wrist to screw in a screw and how to put two pieces together (if you ever played lego) it will be fairly easy

    1) what is your current GPU?
    2) what brand and model is your PSU?

The reason I ask is because, if the GPU is usable, then you can upgrade some other components, such as the case and motherboard, and add in a CPU cooler for overclocking purposes.

You may select one of these options :P

Seriously though OC is easy (and the parts selected are specifically for it) and will give better raid performance.

Studies show that 9 out of 10 players have statistically higher dps/hps with faster minimum frame rates*

GPU is probably fine for WoW, PSU seems like a weak brand, but it could be a decent OEM - I'd replace it as a precaution.

And Cyrops, it's more a matter of personal preference on the case, and the motherboard, whilst fine, is somewhat limited on the OC headroom, which is necessary for the best performance in WoW.

what im asking basically, is my current gpu vs the one listed in the above build a big upgrade? like if i play other games as well, will it be a massive difference in performance or is it little enough for it to not matter?

IT's an upgrade, but it's perfectly viable for another year or two.
