That 3200x1800 resolution... Have fun trying to game on that with single 870M.

I suppose it's pretty nice for the price but that doesn't make it a good purchase, am I making sense?

It's not like you have to game at 3200x1800. Considering the biggest complaint of most RBv1 owners was the monitor which was atrocious, this is a very nice upgrade.

Really there isn't any other "ultrabook" laptops that compare and in that sense I would say it's worth it. If I was in the market for a gaming laptop that is also highly mobile it would be my first choice.

For gaming? I'm pretty sure all modern games scale down just fine. Why would you turn the desktop off of the native resolution?

For only $800 less, you can get a better system.

Meh CPU, and Meh GPU (Kepler card, not Maxwell).

Is it worth the price? Nope.

It it worth the price when comparing other laptops with similar/more powerful components? No. You can get a laptop with a newer/faster processor, 880m, 1tb HDD, 256GB SSD and other shinanigans for about $600 USD cheaper.

Is it worth the price for a thin, lightweight powerhouse of a machine? Probably. You're paying for the pixels and the form factor here. So if you're looking for a travel companion, or won't be playing on a dedicated workspace regularly then I think the Razer Blade is priceless. To my knowledge, you can't find an as powerful laptop that is equally thin and lightweight anywhere. Feeel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Different target market. You linked a damn 17" portable desktop. Not an ultrabook. The Razerblade is a 14" and .7" thin. The MSI, while a great desktop replacement, is 3x the thickness and almost twice the weight.

Did I mention it was $800 less?

    It's $800 less.

No seriously, I don't think anyone cares about the size or weight, when talking about eight hundred dollars. If you're going to spend that kind of money (anything over $1500) on a even moderately mobile platform, you better damn well get the best performance. Not a rebadged GPU and a half-gimped CPU. If you want portable and then, then get something cheaper and less powerful for like $1500 less.

The Razer starts at 2199 and the MSI is 1899 so that's 300 dollars.

It's really all based on opinion and what you want. I've owned a 17" laptop and a coworker at my last base had one of these 17" gaming laptops and it was beastly huge. I would never buy one that big. The 15" sager while being a smaller screen is still over twice as thick. The 880m (which is also a rebadge btw) is a very good GPU but the reason it will never be offered in a thin laptop is because it outputs much more heat than the 870m.

    is it worth it?

that depends on the buyer, if you are looking for pure performance per dollar then no, but if you are looking for a great performing laptop that is on the high end of build quality then yes, espesially considering the few laptops using a full aluminum unibody (macbook, aorus, couple others)

It's worth noting that if you play games on it in 1600x900 that it will still be pixel perfect without any fuzziness since it will be an exact 4 to 1 pixel ratio after the downscale. I'm pretty sure it's intentional, not sure why they're not communicating it properly to the press though.

I own a gaming-oriented laptop that I bought back in 2010, and while it continues to serve me well for various things, I wouldn't do it again.

Of course for gaming you'll be running the games at 1600*900. Doesn't blur the image and is still fairly acceptable for 14" screen.

But I don't trust razer to build a reliable keyboard or a mouse, much less a whole laptop.

from what i've read on them, there is a huge difference in quality between their high end stuff (laptops/tablets) and their other stuff

I'd definitely buy it if I was looking for a mobile gaming system. This thing looks sleek, and has nice specs. I think that people who say it's not good or even not worth it are saying it simply because it has the name Razer on it. Put a Corsair logo on it and suddenly everyone will scream how awesome and high quality it is, and they'll flame whoever question the quality.

Difference is that outside some RM-series PSUs Corsair products tend to be solid.

except for mice that die after a year, and keyboards that shut off from static shock :P

but i agree, if that laptop had a corsair, steelseries, or logitech brand on it, people would be praising it
