Human life and it being pretty short

So my dad died on january 21st because of a case of Sepsis(blood poisoning) at the age of 56.

Anyways, it made me think about death a lot, and how it is never discussed in our society.

And then it hit me. IF we reach 100 years old we have 36500 days availabls. Usually it's far less.

So why can't we extend that? Make the minimum about 100 years for everyone

    Otherwise life seems pretty short.

I mean I am not religious, so that means that I believe you cease to exist, because your brain died...

    Isn't that a little depressing?

It is depressing from the perspective of that belief. Thankfully, there’s more to it than that.

We're working on it. Keeping people alive is difficult.

Only if you live in a fairy tale. Some people, you have to understand, are realists

It is a bit depressing, but as it's been said "It's pretty much the longest thing anyone's
    ever done."

PS. Sorry about your dad. =/

I'll tell you a secret if you want to live to 100. Stop eating/drinking anything with sugar, exercise every day, pray that your ancestor gave you good enough genetics to not develop a disease, and hope your lifestyle (ex. tanning, smoking, etc.) doesn't give you a disease.

And then give $$ to science.

I am not a religious person either, but truthfully, you have no way of knowing what happens to a person's consciousness when the body dies.

Better yet, reduce your risk by not tanning or smoking

Funny thing about that. Whenever I hear that, the guy is very jaded and cynical.

So what do we do when we have no evidence? We can't go around making decisions with the assumption that something miraculous will happen, that would be silly!

No not at all, far from it. I'm a very optimistic person. I'm an idealist, though. I like to think in terms of how the world could be, and how to get there

I believe that your consciousness is transferred on to a new life, I mean if you think about it deeply it seems plausible especially with deja vu. I don't think life just begins and ends with your own consciousness, it just keeps going pretty much like reincarnation. This is just a possible theory since I'll probably never know even if I'm born into a new existence.

Isnt that pretty egocentric to steal someones else life?

The perception of the length of a life really depends on how a person spends his life. Also, see a human's life now in relation to the past, when an adult died at the age of ~30-40 in average.

I must say that I additionally don't like the thought of extending human life even further. Humanity already has problems with their resources, world's population is growing and if mankind keeps increasing human life further we have a very dark future to come...

While I don't think much happens after death, I could be wrong or right, thing is if we're all going to die and cease to exist as you put it why the hell does it matter if someone likes a little comfort from thinking/believing that they move on to another life etc. after death?

We'd quickly run into overpopulation issues if everybody started living longer. If we don't vastly increase our agricultural yield, we won't have enough food for everybody.

No, I am not Malthus. Though I should write an essay on population....

Funny thing is I believe even if you cured aging, statistically I think that would raise the average life expectancy to a mere 600 (due to your likelihood of mortality due to illness, accident or murder). I mean obviously some people would be lucky fucks and live to 2000, and others would only make it to 20.

But yeah, immortality without invulnerability will still only go so far.

But that will keep some people going until we reach the age of technological transhumanism

Human life really isn't short, probably one of the longest living animals also the slowest animal to develop

Takes babies what 3-5 years to learn to control their bowels.
Other animals do it within a few months if not weeks of being born.

Takes 13-15 years to be able to reproduce
Other animals lets say a year.

We don't fully reach 100% completion until we hit about 25 years old.
Other animals do it in about idk 5 years.

Humans are sorta an EA game really. Comes incomplete and takes a while to get all the content for it.
    WORLD POPULATION
    U.S pop 318.2 million,Mexico pop 122.3 million ,Russia 143.5 million S.K 50.22 million China 1.357 billion ,United Kingdom 64.1 million, Europe "as a whole" 742.5 million, Canada 35.16 million, South America 387.5 million,Africa 1.111 billion , Middle east 205 Million , Asia "not counting china" 3.009 B ,Greenland 56k,, Iceland 323k, S/N pole 1k-5k/2k
