Long live Holy Nova spam and relying on Saving Grace!!! So so so disappointed in seeing AMR go. I had such hopes for having high spirit vs active regeneration play styles.
As for the summation of the Discipline changes, either this is a mid build problem thingy or Discipline is getting a knee jerk redesign and nerf.

Excellent game design(!)
No spec should "rot".
Has anyone else noticed that all passives related to active heals have been removed? Does this mean that Disc is finally getting a pure Dps/Atonement approach? Such good news.
Risk of making the feel of the playstyle dull... with low crit no aegis... PoH will hit like a wet noodle for Disc... Basically Disc will be Holy without their ticking mastery :/
Good, Spirit Shell was a terrible idea the moment it was introduced I was like that is going to be UP or OP, no way to balance it. The KJC of Discipline.
I know it's alpha, but I no longer want to play Holy/Disc after this crap... barely had any throughput boosts to begin with, and now BT, ToT, IF, SS all gone... so what, we have AA and PI, which the latter kinda blows... At least Holy is basically the same, but still...
Just reinforces the "Disc at Lower iLvl is weak" problem they have given the innately lower crit we'll see. (even with the 5% crit sources passive)
Though, I do wonder if we'll see the current Crit/AA set bonus as a baseline ability--- it wouldn't be the first time we saw a Tier ability inspire.
There is a massive difference between losing some aspects that defined a class and having the majority of them taken away. With Atonement reduced to something you use rarely, Spirit Shell going and some of the fun little tweaks that more experienced players could try and manipulate to improve their healing (IF, ToT, BT, Rapture...) all going there isn't much of what made the specialisation fun, appealing and, crucially, different left.
Absorbs lose potency as player health pools become more difficult to fill. Plus, you could have the most awesomely overpowered absorbs available but if what defines the spec for players is taken away, it kills interest. Which, isn't good in my opinion. Feeling and character connection is apparently important - we see that with the care Blizzard are taking with models. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to actually translate over to modes of playing.
I'll hope that with Spirit Shell et al. going we'll see more of a focus returned to Atonement as a filler.
Works if the need for EHP is more limited to a select number of players that can be covered with the guaranteed shields from Clarity and PW:S. So, tank healing niche? As long as the concept of absorbs sticks, there will be a spot for disc priests in high end progression raids, if for nothing else, to boost the EHP of the raid against hard hitting mechanics.

My take away, until we see more changes obviously, is CRIT CRIT CRIT GEAR....
Tons of boss abilities that benefitted greatly from targetted absorbs. Garajal debuffs (3 people taking more dmg than anyone else), huddle on sha (5 people targetted), Frostbite (if healing through it), Matter swap (almost a neccessity on progress), all sorts of stuff like that which hits 1 or a few players very hard and can be reacted to. Considering the healing model they are painting, we are likely to see a lot more of that sort of mechanics (let the raid hoover at around 60-70% while trying to keep it up, 3-4 people get targetted by heavy-hitting debuff, so have to keep them up with heavy spells while healing the raid with whatever is leftover. Think Penetrating cold on Anub).
True, though how many bosses in a tier have those mechanics? Two, or perhaps three (note, I haven't counted and that is just a total guess)? Guess we'll be seeing more like that!
Will be a shame if Spirt Shell goes as the idea of having to set it up prior to the damage was nice and really played on the idea of pro-active healing.
Less about Spirit Shell and absorbs but Binding Heal being Holy only now seems... weird.
I feel bad for Druids (no more stacking Lifebloom, losing Barkskin aside from Guardian) and Shaman as well. Seems as though the new design ethos for WoD is to get rid of all the little bits and pieces that made a class feel unique and different.
