I worry about WoW closing too, so you may be right. Still a game like Rift scares me when it only has a population a 10th of a game like wow. If I could see some financial reports from it, it would ease my mind. Wish Trion was publicly traded.

Look at some other MMOs on the market like LotRO which also has a small fraction of WoWs pop and many said a long time ago it was dead. Still has it's playerbase and still receives frequent updates. A few others of note, Everquest, FFXI, Lineage 1, Eve, Aion, DDO. Games do not just shut down. They keep chugging along.
You'll come across more people in the starter zones of Rift in 5 minutes than you would in 5 hours in WoW's starter zones, but i digress.......
The main Nightmare Tide website has been updated with a bit more Lore and some pics which you'd have seen already

o0o didn't know about this, but I never managed to get to level 60 in the last expansion. Maybe I shall try again so I can see this expansion.

Man...their expansion is going to look good
BAD WOLF
:O Nice concept shots. I take it that's all raid armor?
At any rate, my character's L53...must get to 60 before this expansion.
Currently playing: GW, TORTANIC.
Still visit: TSW, W*, GW2, Rift, LOTRO, ESO.
Endure. In enduring, grow strong.
Ok i slack, didn't notice that i had put in the Onir - Nightmare Soldier three times, have now corrected the pics for Ice Giant and Skelf Races oops
hey slip, did they give ur the actual mount or one of the packs they have a chance to come in? from the stream yesterday
It really depends on how they do this. If it is done the same way as PvP scaling in SWtOR and other games that have done similar it may not work well. For those that don't know, scaling in other games scales stats only, not talent points or abilities. This means you are generally missing several key abilities that are imperative to your class and practically needed. Imagine a Defiler Cleric without his Beacon in a max level zone. A ranger without the higher level pets. Even if they do add in scaling for talents and skills, this would mean having to do your talents each time you scale up. At least once for each particular level if they let you save them for each level. With the number of specs you can have already though, having each one saved multiple times for multiple levels.....pretty doubtful when they already limit how many specs you can have due to hardware. Giving everyone 20 times more specs to save, not likely.
This is one of the reasons I personally never really liked scaling. Up or down. When scaling down, you have the reverse issue. Higher level players that scale down still have all of the talents and abilities they had at max, only stats are reduced. This leaves a level 60 scaled to 30 much more powerful than a regular level 30.

I am not playing Rift now but i will for sure try new expansion out. too late to get into tanking now and farm gear and all. won't even be able to t2 raid before expansion okey sure i could, but meh. rather go tank in the beginning of an expansion than in the end
I really should give Rift another go at some point. It looks like a lot of fun and I feel like I never truly gave it the attention it deserved despite the style being very much to my tastes.
honestly that is the problem with most games. people generally will goto a game that is New. then jump from that to another without actually playing the game to its fullest. Heck, i do it as well, but Rift has been the only game since well SWG and WoW where i stuck with the game and played it for years.
It will scale stats, not abilities. That much we know.
But thats fine. Its not for you to be able to go off on your own in these zones, it so you can play with your high level friends, so they can basically carry you.
Its great for that sort of thing. Now it will probably scale ability LEVELS. IE if you have say Annihilation Bomb it will scale to whatever rank it would be for a level equivalent to that zone. But it will not add new abilities.
I also am not sure how they will handle movement throughout the zones, will you need to be grouped to mentor up? Cause otherwise it would be automatic and I'm not sure how I feel about that.
I thought I read that mentoring up would also grant you some of the passives in your soul trees, not sure how that would work.
