brightness issue

hello ,

i just notice that on my win 8 when u take your mouse to right corner for option , the 'brightness' one is unclickable (its where the shutdown menu is on side sweep) and was wondering if thats normal? if any win 8 user can confirm they have same please.

thanks for reply , i am not using 8.1 , tho i just notice is today after my background went black (my 2 year old niece likes to smash keyboard lol ) and i notice brightness button as well while trying to undo whatever she did

also while not related , can someone tell me if its normal that i have Flash player (32bit) in control panel (win 8) and when i go to advanced i have updates area greyed out (unclickable) , does that mean i dont have any flash player on my pc? and if i should install one?
