Do you think there's any chance that in the future Death Knights will start at level 1? It's weird them being the odd ones out.
Not likely, the experience is intended to be special. Might revisit the hero class concept again at some point. (Muffinus)

In WOTLK's CC edition behind the scenes disc, Chilton or one of the dev's made a claim they had over 30 hero classes in one state of development or another as concepts to be explored or combined.

Some have speculated he was being hyperbolic. But hero classes were originally about the hero units which were iconic to Warcraft 3.
Now you see people trying to invent whatever the heck sounds cool to them as a new class.
It would probably be based on already established lore in some recognizable way and be tied heavily into the theme of the entire expansion's story it debuts in.

The balancing issues DKs caused in WOTLK have often been cited as a canard against future Hero Classes, but several developers including GC over the years said they are by no means ruled out as future possibilities if they are in any way part of the direction Blizzard feels inclined to explore.
So anyone talking about DK balance and being overpowered? You can disregard as bullshit.

As for making other classes redundant, with an imagination you could imagine ten different shades of any class as long as you made their abilities feel brand new to use. In the end you will only ever have melee, ranged, healers, and tanks with variable hybridization.

The trick will be in making things feel brand new and different using any number of approaches. Just compare the feeling of a Barbarian in Diablo to a warrior in WoW when watching them in action, despite the differences in game mechanics.

I think what Yig said was perfect.

As far as what I'd personally like next, I'd like Bard and Psionic, although many people on the boards here don't agree and have many reasons why they aren't good ideas.
