FarmFriend - Watch Movies, Streams & Videos ontop of the WoW window

    Hoi!

I read the rules and I couldn't find anything that said that I cannot release programs here. I didn't know in which section to post it in, but considering the Free Far Sight tool was posted in here, I figured I'd dump this here too.

I got some requests to release this, and at first I made the thread on my Guild's website and linked it to people, but I forgot that you needed to sign up in order to view it...Sooo, I figured I'd come to mmo-champion instead.

    So, what is FarmFriend?

    http://www.gfycat.com/JitteryWhirlwindCatfish

    Reddit thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments...top_of_the_wow

FarmFriend is a program that will let you watch Streams, Movies, Videos, you name it, ontop of other windows with no borders around it.
Personally I find farming a bit tedious from time to time, but having something to watch while doing it makes it all easier!

Just to note, just because it's named FarmFriend doesn't mean you can use it while raiding or whatever. I promise I won't sue you. It makes those fucking farm-raids so much more enjoyable.

There are several "topmost" programs, but sadly they usually have the clunky border, making it very annoying.

    Features
    • Change opacity
    • Move it around and resize it...
    • In-build browser
    • Play local video files
    • CLICK-THROUGH, meaning that you can click on things behind the window without the application getting in the way. (See video)

I've made it auto-embed videos on Twitch and YouTube, other sites you would need to find the embed code to make it smooter.
I'll see if I can come up with a nice fix for this.

    Disclaimer
You should always be wary of programs you download online since they can contain malware. People usually comment "lol malware" in threads because, let's face it, it's a random link in a forum.
The application is written in C# .NET, and people who have just a bit of knowledge can easily reverse this using programs like .NET Reflector, or whatever you like.
If people are interested in viewing the source I can release it too.

    FAQ
Q: Why do you want to release it?
A: I get a kick of people using my applications and finding them useful. Keeps me motivated to keep on learning.

    Troubleshooting
Q: Application doesn't start, what do I do?
A1: Make sure to have both .DLL files included in the original download in the same folder as FarmFriend.exe
A2: Make sure you have Microsoft .NET 4 (or later) Framework installed. Download available here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl....aspx?id=30653

    v1.2 update notes
    • Minimum size of application is reduced, you can now make it even smaller
    • You can now make a playlist of local files by selecting multiple files in the file browser
    • Small bug fixes

    Download v1.3: Dropbox link
    Virus scan: http://virusscan.jotti.org/en/scanre...ec4f885a954d15

    Old versions:
    v1.1 https://hostr.co/fcwFgHGXo27E

..I think that's about it. Please, if you have any feedback or bug reports, do report them! I'll try to launch frequent updates in THIS THREAD, but don't worry. This application is SO HIGH TECH, that it will automatically check for updates. It won't download the updates for you though, but rather notify you that there's one

    Peace out!

Yoho! It doesn't actually interact with WoW in any way, seeing as it's just an external application. So you can use this while playing Retail WoW, Beta WoW, PTR WoW, Skyrim, Counter Strike, Browsing the Web, you name it! (Granted that the window is in Windowed Mode / Windowed Mode(Fullscreen))

As for others, thanks for the kind replies! If you have any features you'd like to see, just leave another reply in this thread.

this maybe a little advanced/resource intense, but is there any way to incorporate a "media browser" style feature to it; instead of the file browser window pop up, setup a media folder and have it show it in the background (like where all the instruction writing is on url mode)

also is that the smallest we can make it for a reason? id like it to be a bit smaller than the defualt/smallest.

example of what i mean by a media browser; http://mediabrowser.tv/community/upl...wserServer.jpg

other than that, pretty sweet thanks for releasing it!

I don't know, but I can take a look at it. I feel like that would be a lot of work for something minimal, but I'll see if I can think of something
For the application size, yeah, I'll reduce the minimum size!

I don't want to spam updates, so I'll wait for a day or two for more suggestions before I launch an update. So if you want something added, speak up!

Any input on the application layout?

Really nice feature, thanks for sharing!

Just spitting out some possible improvements:
Scrolling doesn't seem to work for me. Would be nice to easier adjust the video size.
Is it possible to have it work with AdBlock? Feels really clunky when streaming and a bunch of popups get in the way.
Is it possible to somehow make it resize to the exact size of the videoplayer? Or maybe make the fullscreen function make the Farmfriend window fullscreen, not the whole actual screen.

Again, thank you for sharing! Now I just need to find something decent to watch

There's also OnTopReplica which I personally use.

    Scrolling where?

I have been looking into this, and it wouldn't be easy. I might have a work-around though. Working on it

I could probably make this work for the local video player, although not for the webbrowser.

I prefer OnTopReplica. Let you copy every window und put it on the top.

Just one thing, I'd imagine that on Windows 7, games will experience a noticeable performance hit due to partially transparent overlay being on top. With W8 this isn't much of a problem due to changes made at the core of DX/D2D. I'd be interested to know if this is something that you've experienced and how you fixed or minimized the impact.

    Either way, fantastic idea!
Haha. Well, I havn't experianced even the slightest of preformance hit either on W7 or W8, and thus I havn't really done anything to prevent it. If anyone has an issue with preformance while running this app I'll gladly take a look though!
