Secret Service Requires Female Agents to Meet Lower Physical Strength Standards

You know if there's one good reason to oppose feminism it's this (because it's literally putting people's lives in danger):

    http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/...ts_808441.html

For example, as a man you need to do 11 chin ups for an "excellent" rating, while a woman only has to do 4.

But why should this be the case? It's not like your duties are any different. There are two possibilities here:

    1. You can adequately protect the president even if you don't score 11, in which case why is the requirement 11 chin ups for men? If a 4 chin up capable woman can do it so can a 4 chin up capable man. So the requirement should be 4 to get an Excellent rating.
    2. You CANNOT, in which case why would someone so below the standard be allowed just because she's a she?

I was skeptical at first of this article, but then i seen this.

The fact that standards are indeed MUCH lower, is a sad thing to see.

Same thing with firefighters in Sweden, my friend who did the course and is now a firefighter told me women didn't need to meet the same strength requirements. It's pretty fucked up, it's peoples lives we're talking about..

You realize women are literally biologically weaker than men on average right? Although they are doing the same task as a job, they obviously can't always do the same physically.

There isn't, any more than there are good reasons not to oppose racism.

And an employer should hire the best person for the job. So....

But then we have a thread about women in sports, and all you see is " well if they can meet the same standards ". Same argument for women in combat, but one of the most important roles in the US, the women don't have to meet the same standard? It's hypocrisy, and pointing is out will lead to " woman bashing "

Shouldn't matter, that's the thing. Especially in extreme jobs like this the requirements should not be lowered. Or should we have lower requirements for people with physical impairments also? It is detrimental for the job they're applying at and if they're suddenly in a burning building the fire really wont care that they're physically weaker.

The thing is, I'm completely in favor of treating people the same and allowing them to do the same jobs, if they fullfil the requirements. Lowering standards and expecations as is happening in many professions (police, military and some others around here) absolutely isn't the way to go and will ultimatively be detrimental. Because during work they have to perform just the same and their colleagues have to be able to count on them to do so.

Also it will taint any and every woman who actually succeeds, since people will assume she just did so because of lowered requirements whether it's true or not, marginalizing her effort.

Then maybe they should stick to something less dangerous. You know I admit it, I'd never meet those standards in my current state, but I'm also not demanding that standards be lowered just for me.

Of course if a woman were to meet those standards, then there is no reason to deny her the job.

If a woman can't meet the necessary strength required for a job then women has no place in these jobs.

The idea that opposing feminism means you're sexist is a false dichotomy. (Especially when many feminists are in fact sexist towards men.)

Opposing feminism makes you sexist by definition, considering feminism is defined as 'the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities'.

Feminism has become the new Socialism; a dirty word that idiots bandy about with no understanding of what it actually means.

There are probably good reasons to have a few women with the detail. Have any of you been to an event where a president was? They're all mostly men guarding people anyway.

Yeah but we gotta have equality guys, or else all those womyn will be too offended to do anything worthwhile.

For the standard Navy physical fitness test (not the ones you have to take to do any special stuff, just the standard one everyone has to take): it's not about doing the job, but about making sure everyone maintains a minimum level of fitness. So while females have to do far fewer push-ups then men (for example), it's not because they're being favored; it's because what's considered good physical shape is different.

It looks like this test has a similar purpose in mind; being able to do X push-ups or chin-ups doesn't really correspond well to being able to handle specific tasks in real life anyways, so the idea is just to make sure everyone is at the same relative level of fitness.

12:50 for a 1.5 mile is an excellent score? Why not let disabled people join?

That's a simplistic way to look at it. Feminism is an entire movement with a ton of implications on society, and lot of concepts that you may or may not accept like "patriarchy" and "rape culture". It may involve affirmative action and sometimes feminists are just closeted man-haters who do a poor job of hiding it. It's not just one dictionary definition that you googled.

It would be like saying that you oppose the working class if you don't support communism.
