    Sony cancels "The Interview" release

    http://deadline.com/2014/12/sony-scr...ew-1201328639/

"Sony Pictures has made official what has been painfully obvious to everybody since yesterday morning, when hackers threatened to blow up movie theaters if The Interview was released next week. The studio has officially scrapped its release plans. "

    Thoughts?

Updated - US Links N. Korea to Sony Hacking.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2014/12/18/wo...y-hacking.html

So it seems that the hack if confirmed to come from N. Korea. That asks the question, could N.Korea really follow through on their threat of physical harm to moviegoers? Perhaps with sympathizers in certain areas?

Or do you think it's more talk from a country known for talking big with very little action?

Update - Here's a rather brilliant article that sums up how things went down. Hate em or love him, Clooney is on point with this one.

" The most powerful people in Hollywood were so fearful to place themselves in the cross hairs of hackers that they all refused to sign a simple petition of support "

    http://deadline.com/2014/12/george-c...on-1201329988/

Update Sony says they didn't want to pull the movie, but since theaters pulled out, they had no distribution rights. Currently, they are looking for someone to pick it up

    Update
Sony plans to release ‘The Interview’ on Crackle for free

North Korea facing massive internet connectivity issues. Possible attack. Many groups have already said they would counter attack Nkorea.

Since when do software engineers have the capability to obtain, develop, and use physical chemical weapons?

If you have the internet, a credit card and did well in high school chemistry you can make one.

Didn't know hackers could blow stuff up. Steal my identity, sure. Blowing up movie theaters...doesn't seem possible from in front of a computer screen in a basement.

I guess it's okay to be cautious but lol you kind of can't give in to random threats.

Didn't read the article, but I'm amusing that this is true and isn't satire. Quite frankly it's retarded that it's been cancelled, I very much doubt that hackers would do anything that isn't from their bedroom, let alone go and 'bomb cinemas'.

Giving in to this is just so retarded. It's clear who is funding the hackers, they should release it as a giant 'Fuck you' to NK.

Can't wait for it to appear on the internet in a week or two.

This should have been done months ago. The Korean dictatorship openly threatened the country as a whole to force them not to make a film on such a topic.
    They did it any way.
No one wants to go to war over a film that probably wasn't even going to be that funny.

Make films on less serious topics or try actual original comedy instead of basing it on real life humor.
Don't know anything about who hacked who, but this needed to happen so I'm glad it did. They probably saved a few lives.

Anyone else thinking this is prob a ploy to get more people to watch the movie. After enough "outrage" they will then cave and release it in some way.

Same. I'm surprised Sony doesn't just do a digital download for like 5$

Oh, I'm sure that NK has secret commandos all over the US..... Hopefully this is only temporary and it will show up in theaters soon, otherwise it will just be pirated.

Probably. I'm not really a fan of Sony, though, so I'm a bit biased.

    What a bunch of cowards.

What exactly is in those emails that got them so pant-wettingly scared of their release, I wonder.

TBH, i'm tired of seeing things about North Korea. I understand why Sony decided to pull the movie. I don't believe its due to insulting NK but more that people threatened to bomb cinemas. That in itself is a PR nightmare and especially for a company like Sony that is selling off assets. Frankly, the only repercussion of showing the movie would be the possibility of putting the lives of others in danger not the fear that NK would do something to America because imo they are all talk.

I believe the movie is already available on the internet. I don't recommend pirating the movie however.
