Fix my DK DPS v2

Hi All,

I've recently started dpsing on my DK, and I really feel like I am missing something or just being terrible overall. I never really dps, as I normally tank so I was hoping someone could check out my logs and tell me if there is something glaring that I am doing to be producing such low numbers. I realize my gear isn't optimized as this is my 4th alt, and is usually MS tank- but it's all I have! I just feel like the other frost dk in the guild is crushing me >.>.

Question: Is there anything in my logs that is really hindering me from pulling decent dps?

Hard to judge based on wipes. Do you have any logs of any kills?

Also ~2k imo isn't "crushing", he isn't that far ahead of you.

You don't have any T18. 2 and 4 set are both big dps increases.

Question (BE VERY SPECIFIC): I seem to be always 10k below the other DK. I think my issue is that I don't spam HB often enough, but I don't know how to remedy that situation. I constantly spam my HB key but doesn't seem to be often enough.

Any other constructive feedback is greatly appreciate it.

You last logged out in Blood, need to see your frost gear.

Only big notes that I can make at this point:
1. You are not using Soul Reaper enough.
2. It looks like right now you are running runic corruption rather than blood tap (but in logs you have used blood tap).
3. You have Plague Leech but average about 1-2 uses per fight.

Need to get used to prioritizing Soul Reaper, this is a decent chunk of dps. Using blood tap correctly will help your dps over runic corruption, this should help with Soul Reaper as well. Plague Leech should be used at least once a minute whenever outbreak is up, Leech then Outbreak to put diseases back on.

Note: Quit raiding in siege and just came back, hit 100 at the beginning of the month and have only raided last week through Mannoroth (as 2h frost since i didn't have 1h'ers), so don't take me as an expert, but I generally know what I am talking about

Looking at Fel Lord normal since it is a fairly low movement fight.

Uptime on your 2p buffs is low, 85% for Frozen Wake and 51% for Obliteration. I'd create a Weak Aura or something to track those and try to keep them both up as much as possible. The Obliteration level is low across all the fights it seems. I don't think this is top priority but it will help some. It is a bit easier to keep up when using Necrotic Plague, since you don't need those UH runes for Plauge Strike and Defile.

Slightly low use of Plague Leech and you look to have been sitting on 12 stacks of BT for a decent while a few times.

A bunch of downtime between casts of Soul Reaper, that should be top priority below 35%

Hopefully I'm not spreading incorrect info and someone else can chime in .

Uptime on frozen wake sure could be higher, as for obliteration depends on how many km procs he had and 4set "proc" . If you have a km proc you will only use obliterate if you dont have any ressources for FS. 2set isnt worth tracking since the nerf to obliterate damage and 2set if you cosume too many KM procs with obliterate it will be a dps loss.

As for sitting on 12 BT charges it is bad, but during blood lust on my DK im usually gcd capped and cant get rid of my blood charges, havent looked at his logs but might be the reason.

Plague leech should be used on CD as long as you have 2 runes fully depleted.

Soul reaper should be used on CD as soon as the boss is at 35% unless you have a km proc in which case it's better to FS if you have RP, something like this sub 35% KM FS > soul reaper > km oblit

New to the forums, but figured I'd see what I can do to up my dps. I don't have many recent logs since I didn't log these myself, the guild does sometimes.
I recently got blood tap so working on that. But still can't seem to do enough dps for what simcraft says my gear should. Sick of being that person that gets kicked for low dps

Any advice would be appreciated.

Question :

I've managed to acquire decent gear but I keep ending up in the middle or lower end of the damage meters. I've read forums, used WeakAuras for priorities on spells and various other things but my damage seems to increase only slightly (if at all) and I find it to be unacceptable. At points I've had other DKs who have worse gear than I do out damage me. I would kindly ask of the smarter folks here to check out the logs and tell me what I'm doing wrong. Not enough spells or abilities used? Wrong timing? What am I doing wrong?

Please note that the logs have a different gear level but I've not really changed the way I play.

I'm still not sure which talents are better (defile vs NP) but I've started using Blood Tap, which seems to be a better talent.

1) Defile will probably do better than necrotic plague, excluding aoe fights perhaps.
2) You should be casting obliterate a lot less. Only use it when you have either 1+ unholy rune and a km proc (and <25 rp), or if your unholy runes are capped. Fill with more howling blasts.
3) Use soul reaper on cd while below 35%. I had a heroic zakuun kill exactly 1 minute shorter than your July 30th kill yet I used soul reaper 10 times to your 8. It does a shit ton of damage, so prioritize it more.
4) Never use death and decay on less than 3 targets. Only defile is worth using in single target.

All this advice pertains to single target dps. For aoe, same deal just spam howling blast better.

Gratz on the EDH, that should be a big boost.

Your gear looks pretty good, no major holes that I can see. Looking over your logs from last night, there are a few issues.

Super low use of Plague Leech, you are averaging about 1 use per 1.5 mins. It is a 25 second CD and should be used as soon as you have 2 fully depleted runes.

Looks like way to many uses of Obliterate, you really shouldn't be using Oblit outside of being capped/about to cap UH runes or at no Runic for Frost strike and KM proc'd. Using Defile should make this case pretty rare, since you use them on that as well as Plague Strike. You actually have a higher uptime on the 2p oblit buff than the 2p frost strike buff, that's a no-no.

On that note, the best way to use FS correctly is to store your runic until you get a KM proc or are going to cap. It's not as important until you 4p, but you still don't want to be dumping RP and then be stuck without it when you get a KM proc. Better use of Plague Leech will help you not be resource staved between procs as well.

Still poor use of Soul Reaper, it is literally your highest priority below 35% (other than staying alive). Sub 35% keep 5+ charges of Blood Tap so that you can use it every time SR is off cd.

Minor thing that I know I need to work on, make sure you have Pillar of Frost ready to go and use it after you pop a str potion.

Question (BE VERY SPECIFIC): I seem to be doing way less damage than what I should be for my gear. When trying to compare my logs to top parsing players, I don't see any glaring difference in abilities used, but there's definitely something I must be missing or doing wrong when they are getting 10k more damage on their frost strikes on average (and 10k+ more dps). In the parse I had 2 maces from mythic fel reaver.

My brother just came back to the game and has been raiding with us, I play a mage (and don't have any alts) so i can't really be much help to him, but i feel like his dps should be higher than it is. Was wondering if someone could maybe give some helpful tips.

When you're using Obliterate to uncap Unholy Runes, do I just need to keep 1 Unholy Rune Lit and 1 Always recharging or both greyed out with one always recharging?

You are only using it to not cap Unholy runes (capping would be wasting them), so one full UH and one on CD. The other runes are better used on Howling Blast than half an Oblit.

So basically what you're saying is just keep that one UH rune always recycling? You don't want to be burning both of the UH runes?
And with 4set, I understand I pool resources; would that also mean the Blood Tap charges that build up from not overcapping RP.

Sorry for the stupid questions, I just want to make sure I'm playing correctly. I'm off to bed as it's late, I thank you in advance for dealing with my questions!
