    first time build 1.000.000₩ (~900$)

After years of thinking about it (not even kidding), the day has finally come: I am planning to build my first computer! If I do that all by myself I’ll probably end up blowing myself up, so I’d really appreciate your guys’ help!

    • Budget: 1,000,000 ₩ (~900US$)
    • Resolution: don’t really know, nothing too fancy
    • Games / Settings Desired: again, don’t really know! Planning to try out some MMOs (WoW, Wildstar, GW2), whatever RPGs I can find on Steam, LoL, DotA 2, maybe EVE, etc. I don’t need to play on ultra settings or anything!
    • Any other intensive software or special things you do (Frequent video encoding, 3D modeling, etc): no
    • Country: Korea
    • Parts that can be reused: no (All I have is a mouse.)
    • Do you need an OS? no
    • Do you need peripherals (e.g. monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc)? Yes, but that’s not included in my budget and I can find those on my own I think! But I’m always open to suggestions!

As you can see I’m living in Korea, so everything will be a bit more expensive. (Before you ask, neither am I military, nor do I know anyone on base, so ordering from an American site is out of the question unfortunately.) The sites I will be buying from are all in Korean and so are the links I provided (‘doh!), sorry about that. But I guess you guys don’t really need to read the descriptions anyway. The product name is in English! …most of it at least! :P
Below is what I came up with, hope it doesn’t make me look like a complete idiot! (Argh, I can’t post any links! If someone could repost without the space I would be grateful!)

    CPU: http: //prod.danawa.com/info/?pcode=2673600
    RAM: http: //prod.danawa.com/info/?pcode=1296497
    MoBo: http: //prod.danawa.com/info/?pcode=2599768
    GPU: http: //prod.danawa.com/info/?pcode=2967800
    HDD: http: //prod.danawa.com/info/?pcode=1920195
    Case: http: //prod.danawa.com/info/?pcode=3004005
    PSU: http: //prod.danawa.com/info/?pcode=1027345

In some sample builds I see an (extra?) fan, in some I don’t! Do I need one? (It gets pretty hot here in summer)

That’s just what I put together after reading some guides, looking at some sample builds and of course what was available for a reasonable(?) price. I’m not insisting on any parts in particular and don’t really care about aesthetics. So basically anything can be changed! ^^

If the sites are giving you trouble, just link a US/EU site! I should be able to find the equivalent, just keep in mind it will probably be more expensive in this part of the world!

    Thanks in advance!

Price are not that expensive i would say same in euro or sometimes cheaper
For an unlocked cpu, i5 4690k, you need Z97 mobo. Problem is i can't even browse the site to give suggestions. What i can do it give you a build in euro prices which should be roughly close to your budget (like 1euro=1000₩)

I think you can fit a gtx970 in there if its a little over ditch the cpu cooler for now. Get it when you want to overclock the cpu. If there is no way to fit the gtx970 get the 960 and you should have some cash left to buy a small ssd, like a 120gb samsung.

    Thank you for your reply!

I know, sorry, the site kinda sucks! As I said, linking stuff on a US/EU site is perfectly fine, I should be able look for it on a Korean one myself!

Although the price is not set in stone, I think what you linked is much more than my initial proposal! We'll see, I'll check back when I have found the stuff! (Might take a while, my Korean sucks! :P)

    - - - Updated - - -

I couldn't always find the exact same thing you linked, so I took the most similar one. Except for RAM, couldn't find any be quiet! products at all! I simply "linked" (Sorry, still not allowed to post links! ) the same product from a EU site, should make it easier for you! This build would cost me 1.2 million, which is about 1000€. With the cheapest GTX970 it would be ~200k more and I'm way over my initial budget already!

Seems fine mostly. You don't need to get that much expensive Z97 mobo. You can start from ASRock Pro4, Gigaabyte Z97X-sli or Sniper one etc. Also look if you can find Coolermastery hyper 212evo cpu cooler. Its a very good cooler just a little loud at load thus why i had the be quiet instead, still better than stock one.

Good thing about being in Korea is that you can get a good monitor for cheap. :O

Think your posts went into moderation and therefore no one could see it, it seems to be approved now so there's a billion posts. You have 10 post now so you shouldn't need to worry about it now.

Oh, I see... Deleted the double (and triple) post, sorry!

@kostattoo: Thanks, I will look for that! Will post a final list in a bit!

@apepi: The only really cheap thing in Korea is Soju in my experience! :P

Ok, concerning the MoBo I have found the following: (now with real links! \o/)

    Gigabyte GA-Z97-UDH3 (~150€)
    GIGABYTE G1.Sniper B6 Gaming Edition (~100€)
    ASRock B85M PRO4 (~70€)

If I decide to upgrade the GPU will any of these MoBos work?

You missed my point on main boards. You need to stick to Z97 mobos since you go for i5 4690k. Don't get a b85. You see on that list pcpartpicker? You want to have Intel Z97 chipset.

Is space an issue ? I know rooms can be very small compared to 'Murica. Do you need a compact size computer ? Micro-ATX or Mini-ITX form factor maybe the way to go if that is the case.

As Kostattoo pointed out getting a motherboard with the Z97 chipset is important. Asrock Z97 Anniversary is a budget option and they have both ATX and Micro-ATX form factors.

I also spent a few years living in Korea, I miss building PCs for friends there by going to Yongsan electronics market, Technomart, and the like. From my last visit a year ago I know these locations are dying as online ordering takes over in Korea as well, but it may be worth visiting still. You may be able to get a few good deals as the locations that are left try to compete with the online sales.

This is assuming you're near Seoul, but other cities like Daegu have similar locations.

Thank you for the input! I know Yongsan market and I heard you can get lucky if you are not looking for anything too specific. But since I really have no idea about computer parts, I’d probably end up buying stuff overprized, or stuff I don’t need (like a non-z97 chipset MoBo :P). Plus, I’m living in Daejeon!

So, this is the final(?) list (I included both a link to a Korean and EU/US site for your convenience):

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690k, English link
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo, English link
RAM: Kingston HyperX FURY 8GB (2x4GB) 1866MHz DDR3, English link
MoBo: Gigabyte G1 Sniper Z6, English link
GPU: Asus Geforce GTX 960 2GB, English link
HDD: WB Caviar Blue 1TB, English link
Case: Corsair Carbide Series 200R, English link
PSU: Antec HCG 520W 80+ Bronze Semi-Modular, English link

Does that get your guys’ blessings?

Also, about the GPU: Will I be able to run most things smoothly with the 960, or is there a huge disadvantage to this card as compared to a 970? (As I said, I don’t require maxed settings.)

Your build seems fine. About the gpu performance its not the best but its still powerful and will max many games except a few very demanding ones. I would say its a fine choice for 1080p@60hz resolutions.

What games do you think it does not max on 1080p@60hz? I have not run across any yet with mine. It's a far better card then many give it credit for.

Op has not specified what resolution he/she intents to play. Alot of ppl move away from 1080p@60hz. They go to 1080p@144hz or 1440p@60hz, thus my comment that it will be fine for 1080p@60hz.

Yes it's just that you said, "except a few very demanding ones." I was curious about which ones because I have tested some of the most demanding games currently out on my GTX960 and have been able to play with everything maxed out. I would be more than happy to test the ones that you mention and even stream/record the results. I do not think there is much out there ATM that the 960 can not handle and I do not foresee anything anytime soon.

This a much more powerful build than I was expecting initially, so I will happily stick to it!

Concerning the required resolution: I didn’t specify because I wasn’t really sure what I could expect! I am more than happy with good settings at 1080p60hz, I don’t think I’ve ever had anything close to that before!

I have one more stupid question: Are all the cables and screws, etc. I need included or do I need to buy any of that stuff separately? (I know I need a screwdriver ^^)

Thank you so much for your help, if you ever make your way to Korea, drinks are on me! (I am “a he” though, sorry to disappoint! :P)

All things should be included, other than the screw driver.

Guys, I'm sorry for necroing my own thread but I ran into some problems! I was able to order all the parts except for the PSU! I tried several different shops but unfortunately it seems to be sold out everywhere! (My theory is they all have the same supplier! :P)

Can I use this one: Corsair CS650M 80PLUS GOLD?
Or could you suggest any other good alternatives to the Antec HCG 520?

    Thanks in advance once again!

    Did some more research:

    Seasonic 620W
    Rosewill Hive 550W
    Silverstone Strider 600W

These should all be available, for more or less the same price. Any of those any good?
