New to pc gaming builds, need help

New to building pc's. But not new to gaming computers. I mainly play WoW and battlefield.
My budget is 800-1000. I want to run wow on high settings and smooth as possible. Low frame rates kill me lol

I'll need all other than keyboard mouses monitor etc. so basically everything in the tower
    Thanks for all who help!

Forgot to mention I'll be starting mechanical engineering at school, just and flyi

Yes, the K in the CPU Part# means it is unlocked and the Z97 Chipset Motherboards allow for OCing.

Is the CPU sufficient enough to max out wow? Or should I wait for another paycheck and upgrade to the 4.0 :P
I'm in no hurry for this build

Unless you are willing to spend a lot more it's the best you'll get. It should get you Ultra everywhere excluding mythic raiding.

Currently, not possible. Even $5000 machines will dip below 30 FPS in Mythic raiding on Ultra.

Ah gotcha. How would OC to 4.2-4.4 vs 3.5 effect game play, in which stats. I'm not to familiar on how it effects the games.

With WoW and other CPU Bound games you will get a noticeable difference in FPS with an OC. I can't really say exactly how much but it will be noticeable.

Not true anymore. Used to be the case till end of mop not wod. I am sitting above 60fps all the time. Worst i seen is instantly for less than sec for 58fps. And to notice that was recorded to actually see it. That is with 4670k@4.4. That is all for mythic raiding.

Op i suspect that anything above 4.2GHz will give you similar results for 1080p at least. If its not the there is somethign else wrong, like old drivers or an outdated addon.

Well, good to know. I have not played WoW in a long time, so was completely unaware of that.

was thinking this but swap the CPU for the Intel Core i7-4790K Devil’s Canyon Quad-Core 4.0GHz LGA 1150 BX80646I74790K Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4600

The only difference between the i7 and the i5 is hyperthreading, which games don't really use. It does have a higher stock clock, but I don't think they OC any better. If you are not doing video rendering or something else that uses hyperthreading, it's not really worth it.
