I'd imagine the OP has some undisclosed impetus for posting this thread... I'm going with "someone didn't care about the l337 purps I farmed, MAKE THEM CARE!"

well its a sad fact but...

some day the Blizzard wow servers will be shut down for good and all you will get for your years of loyalty and thousands spent is maybe a statue to put on your desk if your lucky.

You won't be able to keep your character or transfer them to another game. Your characters wont come to life and start hanging out with you.

By the time the servers are shut off though you will most likely have moved on and forgot about wow by then never many people left at the very end.

It's all about perspective. Although, it's usually used as a cop-out excuse. Example: "You're bad at this game." "Am I? I don't see you with this mythic weapon" "You care too much about pixels in a game"

Telling someone that they shouldn't be proud of their accomplishments/appearance in a video game is pretty asinine. Just because you don't value it as much, doesn't mean that the other guy shouldn't.

But I also understand the opposition:

WoW won't last forever. When the servers are gone, your accomplishments won't matter much, if at all.

I'd say that it's important to know that your accomplishments are only relevant as long as the game is. Neither side should be forcing their opinion on the other. People play the game for different reasons. Just enjoy the game and ignore people who try to rain on your parade.

    Pretty much what Lime said.

Some guy said it on a general forum recently. I forget what the context was but when i was reading it - The guy that said "You care about pixels in a video game"

I think it was about Mythic raiding and why it should be removed...

Like as a Mythic raider myself - i personally enjoy the difficulty and tightly tuned fights. If there wasn't Mythic i probably wouldn't play this game. But then out of nowhere some random guy just says "Why do you care so much about pixels in a video game, you need help" and he got all these upvotes.

Like WTF? It's such a douchebag remark.

Yes i'm aware that the game is just a game but as someone who's spent 10 years of their life playing this single MMORPG. I can just tell that the guy who said it is one of those players who just don't like the game.

You'd think that but it was about Mythic raiding being removed and one of the Mythic raiders were like "I enjoy difficult content" He got downvoted to oblivion.

    No: Don't care.
    Yes: Trash it.
Idk why those examples aren't valid. It's like hte person that said it on the forum has never played the game before and he is one of those teenage trolls who just like to trigger people and say stupid stuff.

As for if it hinders my experience with the game - Your absolutely right - It doesn't affect my gameplay experience at all. It's just a really annoying thing to say and it's even more annoying when people upvote it.

When people say that - i genuinely want to ask them "If you feel that way about this game then why the hell do you play it and feel the need to post on a forum about it?" It's literally the most asinine jerkiest dickhead thing i've ever see anyone say.

No it shouldn't piss you off cause its the truth. Comparing this with a football ball or a tennis ball is just non sensical. People have no love for a ball, but for sports, the fun behind it.

You can love video games as a hobby, but getting emotional with a virtual thing is stupid

Just as getting emotional over a movie, right? Or a book?

Heck, people go as far as becoming violent from an overemotional state due to sports.

They're all pointless pastimes that aren't really worth getting worked up about (to the detriment of your health), but there's nothing wrong about being emotionally invested in something. It's when nothing stimulates, that you have a problem.

You need help, I'd recommend a therapist to help resolve those anger issues you have.

It's almost usually the players who actually don't play this game a lot that say it on the forums.

There is a big difference between standing all day in front of a computer screen playing in a virtual reality than investing yourself in ...lets say... having a diploma, studying something REAL that exists and try to do something with your life. Playing sports is the same thing, you develop your body and learn things.

What do you develop in a game like WoW? Reflexes? No its not a fps or combat game
Culture? No its all fantasy despite relying on mythology
Intelligence? Its not an intelligent game

Most video games are just as dumb as watching TV. They don't have any added value aside from short term pleasure. You won't get anywhere with your life only relying on short term pleasure just like a drug addict

    O.o
My mouse, keyboard and monitor are just as real as any sport fan's couch, TV and remote.
If anything, gaming is more emotionally investing as my abilities control the success or failure of the depicted character, unlike a sports fan who has no influence over the athlete he has chosen to 'support'.

A ball going into a hole or a net is about as impactfully pointless as an event in a video game. Both are ephemeral and only serve as entertainment.

Its still pretty bad to be emotionally invested in a virtual reality to the point that you become addicted to it and short tempered whenever you do not play the game.

I don't know many people who become like this reading books or movies. However there are plenty of gamers of this sort.

Yea because obviously when you are in Azeroth its a real world right? This is not the Matrix dude

A mouse and keyboard is irrelevant

Demanding others to serve at your beck and call/fawn over you whenever you call attention to yourself is simply the worst.

How weak of a person are you, to need others to validate and affirm you through your phat l00tz?

    Do it yourself.

If I spend 2-4 hours everyday in wow, it's not any different then someone spending all day working on a car, driving motorcross, RC, whatever, a hobby is a hobby.
On the flipside, you got all these whiners, the vocal minority, who spend countless hours on various forums writing how much they dislike stuff, making doomsday threads and will flame anyone who dares to say something possitive about blizzard, these guys are the once who no longer has wow as a hobby but is living their life through the game, this is the people that create bad rep for videogamers and what we do.

Yea I guess if ur a social in this game everything is a joke. But I agree with the OP. It's a hobby, something you've taken interest in, something you spent day and night trying to perfect. You play because you enjoy it, and its not different from anything else. You feel good about it and always have a good time in there so, to those socials saying "yea it's just a game blehe" sure to some people it is, but not to everyone. I myself have 1600+ days in WoW, so it's my life basically, and yea im proud of it, I enjoy it, it makes me happy, so fuck anyone who tries to tell me different.

I think the biggest difference is a professional Soccer player and a professional Golfer can make millions of dollars a year if they're good enough while professional gamers can make a tiny fraction of that.

Seriously, imagine where you could be in life if you spent the same length of time playing sports as you have playing WoW. Personal satisfaction aside we all know we've made terrible decisions.

Everything has it's borders, ofc we get invested in stories with fictonal characters, but there is always point which once passed makes you look like obssesive "dude, get some fresh air" person. And here on forums I met quite a few people, with one prominent one which exhibits his bias in each possible way, he makes a threads with biased polls, enters each thread that shows completely different approach to the character he dislikes just to go there and crap on everyone because apparently having nice positive thread about someone he dislikes is basicly like declaring war with him. And he has to go there to ruin everything with his biased opinion, absolute disrespect for others opinion, often accusing said people for things he is master of like twisting the facts and bending them to fit his argument, and turning out to be the biggest delusional and immature hypocrite I have ever saw.

and THIS is something that shouldn't happen. This is where our involvement/ investment in fantasy lore shouldn't cross the line where you basicly become dick to everyone.
For example I was never Elf or Illidan fan, so I'm not really thrilled for next expansion but I'll give it a try and I won't bitch over it becuase it doesn't fit my liking or is it featuring characters I dislike.

I'd have been doing something I loathe for 20 years? Sounds awesome.
