Trans people without surgery can compete in the Olympics

Restrictions are set to be loosened to allow transgender athletes to compete in the Olympics without undergoing a surgical transition. Men will be able to compete without restriction, whereas women will have to prove they are below a maximum level of testosterone so as not to enjoy any competitive advantage. Personally I think this is a great move to allow more transgender people to freely compete, but I'll be interested to see if there's any significant backlash from more conservative countries should any athletes take advantage of these new rules.

Frankly... I would be in favor of ditching the gender categories in sports in general.
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shakes, the shakes become a warning.

I guess women's records are going to take a bit of a jump then.

And then cry as men win every single running medal.

No joke. I believe the gold medal woman's runner doesn't place when her time is put in with the men runners.

Not if they're doing hormone therapy, which effectively gives them women's bodies minus the genitalia.

What about the men who are on testosterone while they transition? Will their levels be monitored? Will they have a disadvantage or possibly an advantage? Honestly that's the only question I could think of.

The common misconception about this, is there isn't gender categories in the way most people think. There isn't mens basketball and womens basketball, there is the NBA which is open to anyone and the WNBA which is only open to women. There is soccer/futbol which is open to anyone and womens soccer/futbol which is open to only women.

The fact is there needs to be a womens division for these sports otherwise you would virtually never see them

Not how it works really. You can't change bone structure and such with hormones.

trans women will have to be below a testosterone threshold in order to qualify.

    Sandwich making.

Sport wise? Nothing. Men are simply physically superior.

Except that isn't what makes someone a woman. Even without considering genitalia, there are other structural differences.

Now i'm really curious how it would go with some of the sports in the olympics that isn't that physically demanding like archery and skeet shooting. Anyone know if the difference is big there today?

This just isn't fair, they should not be able to compete on the highest level at all if you'd ask me. Nothing against them personal, but its just not fair for the other contestants. Having a male body just gives physical advantages, even without the testosterone.

Are they going to have their bones sawed down to a Women's petite size? Are the longer/larger/more numerous muscle attachment points and ligaments, that are attached to the longer/stronger male bones, going to be snapped? No they are not, hence trans women will obliterate non trans women's records in no time.

I personally think this is utter bullshit. There is absolutely no way the transwomen will not have benefited from their earlier testosterone, unless they were given hormones before puberty.

So it's not bad enough that the Olympics was barely worth watching in the first place, now it's completely not worth watching. Goodbye any sense of differentiation and actual competition.

Granted, but what else can you do really. I'm trying to look on as much of a bright side as possible in regards to the equality of sport but there's isn't much to grasp at.

There will be backlash from athletes when most womens Olympic medals start to be won by trans athletes and the disparity becomes irrefutable.

You can't have a separate trans category without starting a shitstorm because trans people want to be acknowledged as their chosen gender even though they don't aren't of that physical sex.
