Still a bunch of movies I haven't seen that I would like to have seen, but there are nine that I definitely need to see before I can consider my list acceptably finished:

    1) Your Name

    2) Nocturnal Animals

    3) Silence

    4) Moana

    5) La La Land

    6) Manchester by the Sea

    7) Moonlight

    8) The Edge of Seventeen

    9) The Handmaiden

I will definitely see Nocturnal Animals and Silence before the end of January, I will probably also catch Manchester by the Sea, Moonlight and La La Land somehow. Moana is right at the beginning of February, and I'm not sure about Your Name, The Edge of Seventeen and The Handmaiden.

I do. We live a few minutes walk from a very nice movie theater that shows blockbusters and indie films. It's very cheap too- $6 per adult, $4 for kids.

I go to the movie about 2-3 times a week on average.

We're seeing two films tonight actually; Passengers (@8:30PM) and Hidden Figures (@12:30PM).

There's a nice movie theater 5 minutes up the road from me too, though it's indie selection is limited(I did see The Raid 2 there when it came out though). And yeah, I can get tickets for $6 there, too. Despite that, two days ago I knocked my first movie off my top 10 list. Sure, there's a few movies I still wanna see from 2016 that I'm waiting for the ol' Netflix to get(or to get them from a friend who has a Christmas present she will be giving me later this week), but even if I saw literally every single movie that even held a fraction of interest for me, I wouldn't even have seen a third of the amount you saw. Like, Manchester by the Sea or Sausage Party for example. If someone told me I was invited to a private screening, all food and beverages covered, I'd be picked up by a limo, and escorted by the director, I'd still be like...nah, thanks, I'm good, I still got books I haven't read, or it's been a few months since I last watched Tremors and I'm due for a rewatch...

Apologies for the full quote but on mobile editing is a pain.

I am a tremendous consumer of media. Trimming my top albums of 2016 to 50, top 10 games, top 10 books and best television shows is tough at times. Movies are nothing, easy peasy.

45 minute drive and 15e per ticket.

So yeah, I don't go to the movies at all.

Albums are the only thing for me that is hard, cause I get a lot of CDs throughout the year. I read an absolute ton of books and comic trade paperbacks(I work overnight, most of my shift is spent reading), but a huge amount of what I read aren't new books, so while I've read a boatload of books this year, only maybe, 5-6 of them are actual 2016 releases, if that. And at any given time I only watch a handful of ongoing TV series and play a handful of games(WoW and HotS are all I really play, though I still fire up SWTOR, Diablo 2, X-Com, Audiosurf, and Rift from time to time).

On the way home from dinner tonight we got to taking about the year's best films. I regret not getting a chance to see a couple of films that were not playing at any convenient time/location. American Honey is one I'd like to get another look at for one. Maybe Hell or High Water as well.

I will say this though; I saw the films in my top 3 more than once in the theaters and they are the ones I am still contemplating weeks later. This was a good year, but I felt there were a lot of 7s out there that lacked daring or stakes. Whereas I think a large part of my admiration and enjoyment for La La Land, The Nice Guys and Nocturnal Animals were very striking and original films.

Like I said, I am a super consumer of media and art. There is almost no time when I am not inhaling some form of media or art. I can shotgun an entire season of a show in a day on average. 2 or 3 movies a week, plow through 2-3 books a month, et cetera. I stay as current as my interests allow.

I even sleep with media playing- audiobooks mostly. But also music; typically opera.

2 or 3 books a month? Heh, 2 or 3 books is a week's worth for me, though that's if we're talking the 400-600 page range books...if we get into some of the longer Stephen King type 900-1000 page books we're down to 1-2 books a week, but as I said, very few of those books are NEW books, many of them are older ones. I may have read over a hundred books this year, but of those, only a handful are 2016 releases. Course, I do most of my book shopping at Half Price Books(ie used books) and I do not like hard backs, so that rules out most new books from the get go...

As for TV and movies, I can't finish a season of a show in a day cause, well, I work full time, and I have to sleep, and since a season is generally speaking around 12 hours minimum(for Netflix/FX/AMC type shows, double that for network tv shows), that's simply not possible for me. Even on days off, that's when I do stuff like run my errands, go grocery shopping, etc. Now, I can get through a season in a weekend if there's a season I want to get through(Daredevil was a 2 day viewing for example), but...most shows I just don't WANT to get through. Same with movies...I could certainly watch more movies than I do, but I don't watch stuff that doesn't interest me...and a lot of movies simply do not interest me in the slightest, even if my time was limitless. Plus, I'd rather watch something I've already seen and know I like than watch a movie that looks absolutely terrible to me(like, I'd rather watch John Wick, or The Raid, or Predator, or Pulp Fiction or Rio Bravo or whatever for the 10th, 11th, 12th or whatever time rather than watch say, Sausage Party even once) so even the time I DO spend watching movies, it's simply not often NEW movies. I do spend a great deal of time listening to music, and do buy a lot of new albums, but even listening to music constantly, I tend to play albums more than one time, I don't just play them once then file them away.

I work full time too. But I have my own office and a television and a chromecast in the office. So I just load up whatever is on my queue and watch as I type away 9-5.

Yea, I don't dig that at all. I generally dislike traditions, sameness, routines, et cetera. I am a new experience seeker and relish finding great art.

Oh, yeah, we definitely have different views on what constitutes new experiences and finding great art. Cause I don't consider it watching a movie if I'm not actually WATCHING the movie and paying full attention to what's going on. If I had the TV on while I was at work typing away on a project, it's not watching a movie/show,
it's not having a new experience, it's not relishing great art, it's just having something on as background noise. Same if I have the TV on while I'm leveling a toon in WoW, stripping and cleaning my pistols, or cooking Christmas dinner.

And it's my opinion that if you only listen to an album once and you're done, you're not finding new art. No way are you picking up even a quarter of what's actually going on from song to song, none of the nuances, none of the subtleties, you're not TRULY hearing the music...certainly not for someone who listens to metal, as I recall you do. It's like sitting there snacking on something just cause you want to chew, without actually noticing the taste. I mean, with some bands, like AC/DC or Motorhead, sure, maybe you're not missing much if you only play an album once and put it away, cause those bands, while fun, aren't real nuanced...but if you do that with Dream Theater, or Blind Guardian, or Overkill, or Spawn of Possession, or even something like Iron Maiden, you're undoubtedly missing out on parts of the album. I mean take the Ouroboros debut album. When I first heard it, I loved it, thought it was a phenomenal album. Could have put it away then, and thought yep, great album, it'll make my top 10 countdown. But a dozen listens later, I was STILL picking up on things I hadn't caught the first go round, and the album becomes even greater...

I have now seen Nocturnal Animals four times. In end I may have enjoyed La La Land and The Nice Guys more, but no film this year (and no film in a LONG time) has left such a deep impression on me like Tom Ford's latest film. NA might be some kind of masterpiece but I have a lot of scattered thoughts on the film. In any case, I am giving Nocturnal Animals a 10/10 at this point.

Powerful and thoughtful film making to be sure. Tom Ford has turned out to be a spectacular filmmaker.
