Post-Mortem On Thirteen Beached Sperm Whales Found Their Stomachs Full Of Plastic

A post-mortem on 13 sperm whales that washed ashore near the town of Toenning in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, found plastic in their stomachs. The whales likely died of cardiac and circulatory failure from starvation, however, not via the rubbish in their intestines.

Still, the stomach contents – which include a 13-meter-long (43-foot-long) fisherman’s net and a 70-centimeter (28-inch) piece of plastic from a car – are stark reminders of the environmental impact of human trash.

“These findings show us the results of our plastic orientated society,” Schleswig-Holstein environment Minister Robert Habeck told the Daily Mail. “Animals inadvertently consume plastic and plastic waste which causes them to suffer and at worst, causes them to starve with full stomachs.”

It's kind of amazing how fast we have managed to completely fuck up this planet. Everything is dying, animals, plants, oceans. All because of us..

The monstrous environmental damage committed by humanity is inarguable. You may as well be denying gravity.

So every living thing that dies on Earth right now was killed by humans? Even non-living things like all the world's oceans? It's these hyperbolic statements about the apparent godly power of humans that keeps these debates from being interesting or fruitful.

So the plastic found in the whale's stomachs was already in the ocean before humans got here?

Ironic that in the process of accusing him of hyperbole, you greatly exaggerated what his claim actually was.

If you watched Colbert, Late Show last night. He had a segment of salmon in Pugent Sound having traces of Prozac, Flonase, Tylenol, Aleve, Zolaft, Paxil and much more. I love people who dumb their shit down the toilets my guess and passes it on to our food.

When people refer to the ocean(s) as an entity it doesn't mean a literal singular being, it means ecosystem.

The only person who made hyperbolic statements was you, you made them as if quoting and proceeded to criticize your words, not someone else's. (1)

CptEgo may have expressed himself poorly when he chose to say "everything is dying" but the inferred meaning remains, human industry is proliferating out of control and causing a steadily increasing amount of damage to all aspects of Earth's biosphere. Inarguable.

Everything is dying and it's because of us is what he said and I called him out on it. Put away your sword, knight.

The planet isn't fucked up though. Agriculture is doing great, that's the most important part.

Why are you guys engaging with Fluttershy who is doing nothing but shitposting and distracting from the actual issue?

Gotta love Humanity, willing to destroy the planet we live on to make money. Nothing short-sighted about that, nope.

With your comprehension of it, I would hope it's at least a 3rd language for you.

Or did you feign ignorance in order to start a petty argument?

There's an island of garbage that's twice the size of Texas that's floating about in the Pacific.

Ain't humans just grand?! Within a century from its discovery plastic has done so much damage to the earth...

Not really, more about human carelessness. Not giving a crap and just tossing stuf on the ground and not cleaning up your mess.
    The whatever attitude :P.

A fishing net example does a have a financial element in it. Your are pressured at work so you don't want to loose production getting a crappy net or it's more efficient leaving it behind not repairing and buy a new one.
