Got myself Play of the Game as Mercy for using Resurrect on two players, and then immediately killing Reaper during his ultimate.

Symmetra and Lucio are sure the 2 most rare to get Potg with (Lucio fall-to-death right clicks can sometimes get it tho) , Mercy can get quite easily with her ult and so does Zenyatta, but he requires just good playing (Mercy is the easiest of all supports, had like 5-10 potg with her beta/live). Also reinhardt and zarya pretty easy, just with well prepared ultimates. That is if you count them as supports of a kind.
I've gotten it a few times as Mercy and several as Symettra and a couple as Zenyatta. With Zen, they're mostly offensive, kill chains. Symettra PotGs are usually from having a bunch of enemies run into an area where you've got ton of turrets to burn them down quick (for example, i've gotten it several times on the mexican town map by filling the little room near the escort truck with turrets, attackers run in to seek shelter and get fried one after another). With Mercy, I think I've only gotten it when I get a clutch 4-5 person rez inside an objective. I once had a 5 person rez inside an objective during overtime which led to us winning the objective and the match, I got PotG and got my first legendary vote.
With Symettra I get about 22-25 eliminations a match and of those 15 will be to turrets. If you can get close enough to lock that beam on and start hopping around in random directions most enemies without huge melee drop dead pretty damned quick. If you get behind them they are pretty much dead as they don't seem to recognise which direction the damage is coming from. Fighting around a turret will increase succes and I also find that moving them around on cooldown helps a lot as when they die to a turret they see where it is in death cam and get rid of it.
In a straight up one on one match a Sym will beat a Mei freeze beam a split second before you can be frozen solid, you slow down and can't turn to aim but you don't have to since the beam locks on.
One of my favorite things to do is annoy the shit out of a team with Sym and when they get all salty about 'Sym carries require no skill' I rub it in thier faces and they almost always go sym themselves and fail heavy when I come through with a sym turret counter like Winston/Mei. (Mei's freeze ray clears rooms of tiny turrets.)
I just wish in volskaya you could put you turrets under a floating pad and have a mobile death platform but soon as it reaches a spot where it would be near the floor on the second level it explodes.

1. Heal.
2. Help your team to win.
3. Get more XP.
= There's your credit.
If it's like support players from any other game, many of them feel they deserve special recognition merely for playing support.
I do tend to find that when a healer gets cards up they tend to get votes, and that happens pretty regularly.
bastions , reaper and junkrat ultis all the time in potg. only saw symmetra also from the supporters.
I don't think that it is so much that support players don't get enough credit, I think it has more to do with the majority of people who give commendations don't actually understand what it is that makes something above average. I have seen plenty of times an awful tank or support get 4 or 5 commendations, but someone with 20 kills, 4 gold medals, most amount of time on an objective, and they actually protect the support, get nothing but my vote.
Good support players don't get enough credit, but bad support players get too much credit.
They will never get enough creidit, but that is how a support role works. You might be making the whole team work, but alone, you do very little most of the time.
May the lore be great and the stories interesting. A game without a story, is a game without a soul. Value the lore and it will reward you with fun!
Don't let yourself be satisfied with what you expect and what you seem as obvious. Ask for something good, surprising and better. Your own standards ends up being other peoples standard.

Blizz have completely changed the weighting or something on POTG....
I had just respawned as Bastion, and we had just got pushed back off capture point 'A'.
I got back just in time to
1. Kill McCree doing his ulti
2. Mow another 3 enemies down
3. Mow the same 3 enemies down after Mercy had used revive.
Mercy had POTG. Sorry but me killing 7 people in total on the capture point is easily a better play than a 3 man revive.
I've had a Lucio POTG by killing one person and just about getting to a team mate to speed him away from danger which saved his life. It looked really tame.
I always see supports get the recommendations after the game, if the potg was especially lackluster or nothing special. If it was a sick play that didn't just involve pressing Q or actually helped the team aside from upping your k/d r then the dpser usually gets it
I got PotG as Mei in beta all the time. Well placed Blizzard and then just pick people off with alt fire. Wiped a whole team a few times that way. It really just depends on the skill of the player. That said sometimes I will see plays that are so boring that I wonder how it even calculates. I saw a guy literally kill 2 people like 10 seconds apart and it counted. Nothing fancy at all. Some characters do have it way easier than others though depending on the map.
Whatever the algorithm for PoTG is, it's terrible. There's a reason people call it Q of the game. It just favors anyone who used their auto kill ults and got 3+ kills. If you do the exact same thing without your ult it doesn't get PoTG (even if in the same game). Ults get precedence over skillful play.
Supports rarely get it, it's typically a mercy rez if anything.
In my experience it is quite rare for supports to get POTG but it is extremely common for support card statistics to get mass upvotes.
Doubt it's point based, cuz PotG like these exist:

Much love to Indicate for creating. Eis' work
First time I ever played Mercy I got an Epic rating from the other players despite not getting PotG, and not really even doing a great job as it was my first attempt. I did prevent a complete team-kill on the defense, though; with the Resurrection Ultimate. Probably the best healer class I've ever played in a game.
"We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see." ― Tom Stoppard, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
