Possible to set up another key button to turn on my laptop?

So, as the title says, is it possible?

My power button is extremely hard to push right now (I had to fight with it 5 minutes to be able to turn it on today, that bad) this is due to a poorly applied glue when fixing a problem with the connection jack - yeah.

Anyhow, is there any way of setting it up so another key does the trick?

Edit: and the laptop model makes it very fragile and hard to disassemble, so I would like to leave that for absolute last resort

from the keyboard might be hard if the laptop is off.

might be easier to see if your laptop supports wake on lan. maybe look into using some form of sleep or hibernate function instead of turning it off entirely.

What's the laptop model and I might have a good cheap alternative to your problem. Also how did the glue for the connection jack effect the power button?

It's an acer aspire 5742. I am not sure in which way the glue affected the power button, as there seem to be a few layers of plastic and others separating it from the power jack, but I would assume something that was supposed to be moved when pressing the button was bonded in place, making the button itself nearly unmovable.

Without much info about what you did with the glue, I will assume it's to fix a power connector. First, a replacement power connector is $2 off Ebay brand new. A power button replacement is $6 off Ebay as well. It probably costs less to properly repair that laptop than the glue you used. Unless you damaged the housing, in which I can understand the glue, but even that's cheap.

    Housing is $30.
