LoL plat ADC/Sup new to HotS

    Greetings!

I've been playing LoL for like 2 years getting to plat 2 division (pretty casually as you can guess) and recently discovered HotS.

I literally played my first IA game yesterday so I am still getting the hang of the game but wanted to know where to invest my gold character-wise. I exclusively played ADC/Sup roles on my LoL period so I'm used to dishing out dmg as well as being the support of the team. I also enjoyed very much the laning phase of LoL so it's going to be awkward in HotS but I am down for the change.

What heros or roles should I aim for? Tried searching for basic guides on this forum but there are none, just character-specific ones.
Any site or resource I could check for the new-to-the-game people like me?

    Thanks in advance

I would look at HotSlogs to find what characters are currently in the meta right now. Important to note that unlike LoL, supports are heal bots in this game. The best supports right now are Lucio, Rehgar, and Malfurion. As for ADCs I would definitely pick up Valla. She's a solid overall choice and very easy to play. She's a good character to get a grasp of the mechanics of the game. Zul'jin and Samuro are pretty powerful ADCs right now but they both require a bit more knowledge of the game to maximize their potential.

    Also, welcome to HotS!

    Thanks a lot!
Valla seems like LoL's Vayne indeed. I like aa-focused adcs so this seems like the perfect starter hero to begin with. I also checked the supports and grew fond of Rehgar's toolkit so I will be checking him out too.

If I am not mistaken and I get your preferred playstyle, I would go for those 5 Heroes first (In no particular order):
    • (Support) Kharazim is considered as one of best supports to carry as - both heroics very viable, flexible talent tree, high mobility, high AA damage with Iron Fists which is the best talent choice at level 1. Has a Cleanse, but only at level 16.
    • (Support) Rehgar a more classical approach to supports in HotS, but is good at being aggressive. Has a Cleanse.
    • (Assassin) Valla is a classic AA ranged carry.
    • (Assassin) Falstad is good to learn the power of globals in HotS. Can also go into Mage build for easier transition to Mage type Heroes.
    • (Assassin) Greymane is very flexible as he starts ranged in Human form and go into melee as Worgen, good for transition to Melee Heroes.

Later if you wanted to expand your Support role:
    • Lúcio is pretty strong now, good in hard engage compositions, but lacks burst healing so he is not great at keeping alive squishy teams. Lacks Cleanse, but has good peels.
    • Malfurion is probably the king of supports. He has CC, Utility and good raw Healing. His only weakness is lack of burst healing, but not to a extend of Lúcio.
    • Auriel is very strong in right team composition, but very situational and dependent on her 'energy battery' performing well. Lacks Cleanse, not so good peels, but can aid in CC chain.
    • Brightwing a global support, dependent on good positioning and allies playing safe since you can't cover mistakes of your team. Has a Cleanse.
    • Uther is not in a good spot right now, doesn't do anything good other than burst prevention. Might change with upcoming rework. Has a Cleanse.
    • Lt. Morales highest single target HPS, but no burst healing. No mobility, but can work in very niche situations. Has a Cleanse.
    • Tyrande is tricky. Can be solo supports, but only in scenario where you can kill enemy team faster before your team needs saving. She is good in CC blow up comps because of her Stun and Mark. Lacks Cleanse.
    • Tassadar is a shield bot. Bad as solo support as he can't heal his team back up, but shields are strong and that is all I can say about him I guess. Lacks Cleanse.
    • Li Li is a noob friendly Hero with her abilities being auto-aim. Which can be weak and strong, her lack of ability to target her Healing Brew makes her rather weak solo Support, but she can do it. However I think she is better as 'utility support' where you blind and slow enemy team while also having supportive abilities. Has a Cleanse.

    For ranged carries:
    • Tychus is excellent against high health pool Heroes, but still pretty lethal despite the recent nerf to his range. On top of his solid damage, he has decent wave clear and mobility.
    • Lunara is great at AoE spread damage, but extremely weak in 1v1 scenarios as she depends on building up her DoT damage through abilities and AAs.
    • Zul'jin is a high damage, but low mobility Hero. The more damage he took, the more damage he does. If you like that 'on the edge' playstyle, go for him. He is a ton of fun in right team compositions
    • Tracer has insane mobility, rather low sustained damage, but can pack a punch with her Heroic you build up through AAs and her Melee ability. Extremely squishy, depends on Shields from Tassadar or Zarya.
    • Sgt. Hammer. Yes I know she is a specialist, but she is pretty strong AA based Hero. If you don't sit AFK in siege mode when in team fights, you can function as a solid ranged carry. You siege up when you are about to... wait for it... siege! Once you win a team fight.
    • Raynor might be more viable since Tychus received a nerf as he used to be the tank buster before Tychus' rework. Low mobility, pretty tanky, high damage.

    For melee carries:
    • Illidan is high mobility Assassin with a built in self-sustain, weak to lockdown and has no ranged abilities. Depends on his team to be effective, but once you overcome a 'hurdle', there is no way they can stop you. Pretty decent at sieging, decent wave clear, extremely good at taking camps.
    • Samuro is all about confusing your enemies, other than that he is never the best choice. Lacks wave clear and team fight utility, but is pretty good at taking camps. He is good against bad players, but once you can spot the shimmer and either drop a reveal or figure which one is real, he is easy to play around.
    • The Butcher has high damage, but not very good mobility. He can work, but it is hard.
    • Varian with Fury build is like a weaker Illidan. Can solo a boss at level 10 though. Arms (Or Colossus Smash) is more akin to Kerrigan with more focus on abilities.
    Bruiser sub-category:
    • Thrall (Assassin) does a lot of spell damage, but has very high basic attack damage. One of best solo laners, has good poke, strong burst and extremely good Heroics for explosive team fights. Currently he is just overshadowed by Ragnaros and Dehaka. Never a really bad choice though!
    • Sonya (Warrior) is extremely strong once enemy team lacks a way to stop your spin to win. Good solo laner, good damage, can take camps and decent mobility.
    • Artanis (Warrior) can survive a long time when not stunned or blinded thanks to his AAs reducing cooldown on his personal shield. Can find game changing picks with great swaps. Decent damage, good survivability, okay solo laner, but low mobility.
    • Ragnaros (Assassin). Not really sure if I should include him as he does a lot of spell damage and his AAs are slow, but he can reset his AA cooldown with an ability. Great wave clear, good damage, decent mobility and extremely good utility. He can take over forts to prevent objective damage or zone out enemy teams, really good at defense. One of the best Heroes now.

Longer than expected, but I tried to make a quick overview of all Heroes that could fit your criteria.

Welcome, hope you enjoy your time. For a general guide, there's a couple of older ones on Team Liquid's site:

For help in deciding which heroes to play, my signature contains tier lists from three prominent high level players. McIntyre's gets the most love on reddit, but your mileage may vary.

also since you just started, i reccomend play matches with a friend, after playing 15 matches with a friend, as a warcraft hero, you will get a stimpack for 10 days and a mount

Varian is still a beast, even nerfs what he taken lately. Varian with good twin blades of fury can solo bosses actually. ;P

I would also recomend Zeratul, just for one purpose... Trolling enemy team. :P

This list is a good basic guide line.

Take note warriors require you to make plays, you engaging at the wrong time or disengaging as well can cost games especially true the higher up your rank goes. Just throwing that out there since warriors are high tier atm.

But seriously though, play them all to level 5 (which can be done with the free hero rotation.) This will give you a feel for every heroes' strengths and weaknesses.

Then identify the ones you enjoy, play them for fun, and stay out of Hero League... Because nothing good happens in Hero League.

You will do just fine in this game if you are plat in LoL as ADC. Capitalize on your mechanics with heroes like Valla or Lunara and you will shoot up to diamond without effort. I'd wait with supporting till you have stabilized your MMR somewhere you like it.
