Blizzards lack of displaying server info

Its pretty funny when a new player blind picks a server and faces an empty world since the majority of it is on the other faction and he obviously didint know about sites where he checks server population etc

I mean imagine how many people picked a high pop server as alliance on twisting nether EU. They should really raise in game awarness

Hmm, I see your problem though I doubt Blizzard can do much about what server you pick. A new arrival as well, would research some things at least.

    Probably.
A better question is "why would they care"

If they're new, they don't need to be on a specific realm. Leveling is fine on your own, most max-level content is fine on your own, and the stuff that isn't you can just randomly queue for

With the xserver stuff does this even matter anymore?

I joined stormrage US as it was mostly ally, I now see horde all over the place.

That's the point of the realms marked as New Players; build a better population and balance the factions... hopefully. It's primarily for the population, though.

So your asumption is that all new players are really stupid and never heard of video games before ?

    Not buying it, sorry.

New players tag is useless, it's been on Azjol-Nerub/Quel'thalas EU for at last 10 months now, and those realms are very low pop with no further info.

There's even many realms with even lower population, so the tag means nothing in regards to balance.

I call everything under 10k progress low via this page : https://www.wowprogress.com/realms/rank/eu

Progress usually means "active population" better then raw numbers like Realmpop.

Draenor shows nearly 30k horde and even that feels much lower then the past, unless they got some insane heavy sharding going.

I was gone for 3 years during 2013-2016 and my old server Doomhammer Horde shockingly was much more empty then before, and outnumbered and full of CRZ of the other faction tagging mobs into grey all the time, not a fun experience at all.

The new players I've met, has done a little research, or asked people they knew.

Jaylock is that you? There's only a "New Players" tag on the server list when choosing. You'd have to be completely oblivious to miss it...

During WoD, given how generous my few garrisons were (I only had 6, nowhere near as optimized as they could have been...), I'd try to search out new players. I'd check their Armory (or the wowhead equivalent), see that they don't have many achievements, and then I'd contact them.

Set them up with that mission-table gronnling mount (I still have several in my bags), give them a few pets (again, the mission and shipyard table pets), some toys (again... well, you get the picture...), and if they didn't have heirlooms, I'd take them to Undercity and have them buy two or three sets.

Given how hard it was finding someone who wasn't the lowbie alt of a player with a better equipped main than mine, I'm not convinced that WoW is attracting that many new players...

It's an internal metric that the server daemon uses to tie a Population type to a realm. New Players, Low, Medium, High, and Full. If you say that the New Players tag is useless, then that would make Full useless too, correct? If a server is Full, by definition I wouldn't be able to enter the realm, yeah? Too bad, so sad. I can enter Full realms.

Simply because a realm is tagged as New Players for realm population, doesn't make it useless. It just means that New Players are probably flocking to realms that contain their friends, family, coworkers, or their favorite guild or streamer. There are reasons that dictate where players end up. Blizzard makes a suggestion to new players, that's the use of the tag - a suggestion. Putting new servers in the client is easier than removing realms, so we have X-Realm technology.

doesn't really matter. server identity is a non issue with all the crz crap. can't even level at launch without seeing dozens of players from some obscure server tagging your kills.

    There have been virtually no new players since Cataclysm, and those that have been, fall into two categories;
1: Second account for an existing player
2: Person being convinced by friends already playing the game, who "dictate" which server the new guy plays on..
    Fact (because I say so): TBC > Cata > Legion > ShaLa > MoP > DF > BfA > WoD = WotLK

Problem is, the "new players" realms aren't even the "smallest" realms. So it's not in any way accurate at all.

It's not based off activity either cause Azjol-Nerub EU been with the New player tag non stop for 10 months now.

There's at least 5+ more connected realm clusters that are smaller, English PvE EU.

Anyway, there's way too many low pop realms at this point anyway. And they don't help the game really, when most things are cross realm.

And don't say "but mythic raiding is realm-only", mythic raiding only is current for like 1 "tier" , and those low pop realms struggle progression usually.

What i would like to know about server info is only if they are PVP or PVE

I play on PVE because i hate world PVP, the only world PVP i ever encounter is getting ganked by dudes way above my level and they just want to piss me off.

Anyway, happened a couple of times, i queue for some world quest and end up on a PVP server and just get ganked while leading by all the players from the other faction that just happen to be there for the WQ.

Same here, but most of the time I get transported onto a pvp realm I seem to get lucky and not get killed (unless it's pvp WQ), some of the WQ group addons have filters to ignore PvP realms. But I don't use it cause more often then not the quests are done before any pvp breaks out.

I've experienced most pvp breaks out at world bosses.

I'm also glad they fixed it so you unflag immediately after leaving pvp realm groups.
