fake news. MMO-C isnt listed.

I'm glad Drudge made the list. Most know the site because it was the first to break the Monica Lewinsky scandal but the fact that a site straight out of 1996 still looks and operates exactly the same is pretty incredibly. It is also also surprising helpful and influential.
No Something Awful/4chan is a pretty glaring omission.

The first website is about as influential as the first TCP/IP Frame ever sent, the only difference is that one has been archived. I would never declare the first test of something to have an actual influence, it's a tech demo, something to remember with nostaliga in a museum enviroment, but not something that actually influences anything. Maybe as an engineer I simply am less prone to mystify a prove of concept. It's not at all how I would measure influence, the technology at the base of the website changed the structure of our entire civilisation, but the website itself is rather inconsequential.
Who could think that the first website ever created, defining some of the most essential standards which we still use to this day, isn't one of the most important websites ever made?

Not quite getting the concept behind this list.
I have only been to 7 of those, and 2 of those 7 are so small that I shouldn't really count them. So like 5 reliably. Not sure what I should take out of that. I feel like I am doing good by not going to all of those "influential" sites.
No 4chan? The website that started online Hacktivism and made trolling mainstream?
That website was so influential it even got its founder Moot elected to TIME person of the year!!

Pandora was the first to use a specific algorithm to randomize music selections.
Many many people copied them as success breeds lookalikes and competition.
You may questions them as their current market share is smaller and there are better options, but they were the first and were certainly influential to other spawns of music sites.
No, they did actually not. What existed were directories and an abomination called Webcrawler, that really didn't know if it wanted to be a crawler or a directory. If you're young, you probably can't imagine trying to find something and being limited to the content that is listed in Yahoo. Trust me, it wasn't an accident that you kept going to the same sites over and over again.
These days, some websites don't even put up a search box for their own site. They just redirect you to Google. It's like they go "why bother, we can't search our own DB better than Google can... so you might as well use the superior product and we focus on the actual content of the site." That's how crucial Google searches are to the internet.

While I wouldn't attribute Pornhub this attribute directly, the Porn industry has probably been the driving factor behind a lot of media related progress on the web. I don't want to glorify porn, but when it comes to anything video related, you can bet that Porn was among the pioneers.
Heck, I would be surprised if the first animated GIF widely circulated wasn't some chick bouncing her boobs.

You expect me to believe 4chan didn't make the list?
Haha Most reddit topics come from there in the first place.
>Not listing 4chan because they destroyed TIME's top 100 influential people poll in 2009
What cucks.
