Your take on College Nerds Vs Adult Gamers

I am 25 year old and been in handful of top raiding guilds and met with many pvp/arena hardcore players too in past 3.5 years.

Most of the pvp biased players are always college going nerdy type and majority in those top raiding guilds are generally over 25 and will have multiple couples playing too.

I couldn't believe when this High Warlord told me he was barely over 18 some time back on vent! he just sounds like little kid and here we are admiring them as demi-gods.

Many who play in lan tournaments, mlg etc. are ~18 years. Hydra who is No.1 in sk-gaming arena ranking is now 19 years old. I see several 25-35 year old gamers revering him at absurd levels.

What's your take on this? Most of you adults out there how do you feel when you get owned by these college kids in BG's or arenas? How do you feel admiring some 18 yr college kid ?

I admire no one based on a game as minimal requirement of skill as WoW.

I'm 21, and age means nothing to skills in a video game.

It's not like sport which you need a specific physiology to perform, which come with age. It is a game. Whoever can put X time on this game will be good, either be the 12yo kid, or the 50yo guy.

this, pretty much...but there is a big difference in ability between "pro" mages and "pro" DK/Pala w/e...
but alot of players dont meet minimul skill requirement. i wouldnt say i was awesome, just most teams we played were abysmal...

disagree, my friends bro pvped as rogue 1 year before i started playing, he plays from when he woke up from when he slept- is he better than me in pvp or pve or the understanding of all 10 classes mechanics? no... he is just good with money- good healer in 3v3 though

And I, as a pianist, feel kinda bad when a 6-year old plays better than I do. Well, gotta be happy for them though ;3

Ability always beats age. Unfortunately, some guilds have a generalised view on younger players, and this is where the 18+ guild age limit comes in. I myself am 15, yet I was the main healer in the best Alliance guild on my last server. Some people just ruin it for the rest of us.

Yeah, that 95% bad apples ruin it for the other 5% of us.

I understand, but age is a decent predictor.

Sometimes it seems unfortunate that WoW's skill cap is so low that that is true.
Frankly, 12yos are missing sooo much mental development still, if they can compete with full-fledged adults, it doesn't speak well for the difficulty of the game.

I am 15 and the best dps in my guild, a pull ~7k dps in raid as Arms with no heroic gear at all and maybe 5 245's, against fury warriors and warlocks and mages in full 245's and heroic gear...My guild isn't great, but we have some great players.

Also, we most certainly weren't the most op in S9. Dk's were a better warrior in every aspect. Thanks for trying though.

Wow. Someone who has no job or wife had the time to grind high warlord (which hadn't ANYTHING to do with skill, but ONLY needed time). /golfclap

A 30 year old can suck just as much as a 12 year old when playing his char, and vice versa. But a 30 year old won't have to leave the raid suddenly because his mother is screaming "get to bed little fucker!". He might have to leave because his baby is crying or whatever, which is a perfectly fine reason to do so. A mother yelling with her too-long playing child on the other hand, is not.

Re: Your take on College Nerds Vs Adult Gamers

I've found, as in most things, that the older crowd (late 20's to late 30's) tends to be more laid back and less likely to be complete asses... the majority of unfavorable and downright annoying players I've run into tend to be in the younger set. That being said... this is definitely not a hard and fast rule, and I believe that age itself doesn't dictate maturity. I've met some people who played this game much older than myself (30) that were downright terrors to be around, belittling and annoying others with absolutely no regard for decency or civility. I think the key might be a matter of time available... older players tend to prioritize WoW lower on their scale of important things to do than younger players with more time, and are less likely to be uptight about things and more casual in their outlook and progression.

It's sad that a lot of younger players get singled out by 18+ guild policies... especially since the majority of the truly appalling offenders are in the college age-range (18-22) as opposed to the stereotypical 14-16 year-old.

Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see." ― Tom Stoppard, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead

Same story here, I happen to be 15 aswell and there aren't many Druids who can do what I do, there are however some retarded '15y/o's' who totally screw our reputation

well honestly i like playing every class in the game (not tried max lvl on all) but i USED to twink every class in 29-49 bracket except DK's and priests(priest since getting one to 70(not so much 80 was the most painful thing in my life.)) albeit it helps in max lvl pvp to an extent, but in all honesty i dont like pvp as much and pve is too easy but i think 'why do hard modes when you could save effort and possibly money when people get a easy job...look at me, ranting like my mum

I don't get how having parents is not a valid excuse to restrict playing time. It's as if all these 18+ players have never had parents, never been restricted by them, and cannot sympathise or understand people who are at the whim of their parents.
