For some people it's a passion. And because of that they get emotionaly atached to it regardless if it is just a game or just a sport or whatever.

The most important thing is that this game is not played with bots, it is played with other REAL people across the internet. Some might even form bonds or emotional atachments with each other wich is why they care even more about wow wich is the medium between them and their online friends.
