So many good releases this year that I don't really feel like racking my brain with trying to put together a top 10 list, but Misþyrming, Mgla, and Slugdge are top three, without a doubt.

hey guys i'm new to mmo-c ( mainly for wow purposes ) and came across this thread in my feed. I wanted to post a few songs by some bands (whether or not they've been posted, i didnt go through all 365+ pages), but it says i need to post a couple times on this thread to post the videos. Also is there a way to see if people reply to my posts / etc?

So anyway in some vague order of quality and total listens:

-Lamb of God - Sturm und Drang
-Iron Maiden - Book of souls
-Blind Guardian - Beyond the red mirror
    -Ghost - Meliora
    -Enter Shikari - The mindsweep
    -Sikth - Opacities
    -While she sleeps - Brainwashed

-Skindred - Volume , same goes for Bring me the Horizon - That's the Spirit, both growers.

Honorable mentions to Tesseract, Crossfaith and Parkway drive.
Biggest letdown was Soilwork after hearing the title track that blew my socks off and a few other bands that just didn't reach the level they're capable of, like Trivium for example who also put out a right clanger.

Looking forward to next years Killswitch Engage, Black Stone cherry, Megadeth, letlive. and Billy fucking Talent.

This was a good year for music honestly, hopefully next year is as good or better!

Heh. I thought this was amusing:
    http://www.nuclearblast.com/en/music...t-charges.html

Also...new Epica album in the works! No real details yet, but it's looking like we'll have something from them in 2016. I'm very much looking forward to that one. As far as 2016 releases, I'd say that's currently my most anticipated.

edit: Oh shit, and they're coming to Atlanta in February. That's a bit of a drive for me, but uh....damn, I'm very tempted. I've never actually seen Epica live in person, but from what I've seen in videos and been told, they're pretty awesome live.

    they're alright.
Within Temptation and Nightwish are better by virtue of slightly stronger songs.

Met them a few years back at a festival after waiting in line for an hour to (try to) meet Corey Taylor. Nice peeps.

Considering the recent release, this seemed appropriate for the metalhead AND the geek.
"Believing something is not an accomplishment. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because “strength of belief” is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. Listen to any “die-hard” conservative or liberal talk about their deepest beliefs and you are listening to somebody who will never hear what you say on any matter that matters to them — unless you believe the same. Wherever there is a belief, there is a closed door."

You've finally got me on these, wasn't convinced by the couple of songs I'd heard before, but this is great.

Love this too, I'm a sucker for instrumental stuff.

Also, got into these guys from The Hirsch Effekt Facebook page:

Oh, and saw these live a week or so ago, Black Metal from Liverpool:

This was in my top 20 this year. Best chants in metal dare I say?

Traditionalist death metal that is both catchy as hell and doesn't fuck around. Truly a superb album for people who like metal for its riffs and heart.

One of the finest and spookiest funeral doom bands you will ever hear.

Spectral Lore released a 50 minute EP a few weeks ago. It's pretty good, it's atmospheric black metal that's way outside the norm by crossing it over with trippy psychedelic rock and fuzzy ambient, but it's unfortunately nowhere near the masterpiece that was III (it is probably my favorite black metal record of this decade so far). Nevertheless, it shows that Ayloss is willing and able to expand his songwriting capabilities. I feel that IV will completely level the black metal world when it comes out.

I've been trying to listen to these guys a bit for the past day or so. I've been hearing a bunch of buzz about them, their success and recognition. They just got nominated for a Grammy for "Best Metal Performance" for the song I linked. I didn't even know that the Grammys acknowledged metal. I watched the Grammy Awards for the first time in my life last year, and I just remember a rock album award with a bunch of pop-leaning nominees.

I don't think that the band is bad by any means, but they feel more like an alt rock band with great instrumentals. In fact, I'd rather just have the instrumentals, I'm not a fan of the vocalist. There was also way too much lyric repetition.

    Anyway, here they are.

    On repeat right now.
    1) Load the amount of weight I would deadlift onto the bench
    2) Unrack
    3) Crank out 15 reps
    4) Be ashamed of constantly skipping leg day

My 5 year old cousin knows more about metal than the Grammys. Anyway, better to have Ghost in the metal category than Asking Alexandria or Fallout Boy or whatever.
