On a server which will remain unnamed it appears a guild has actually paid a gold selling site to send gold to a character in a guild that is going for server firsts against them. They paid for the gold and told the gold sellers to send the gold to the guilds maintank and then reported him for buying gold. The maintank is now temp-banned for having received several thousand gold and their guild was unable to get any decent attempts on new heroic modes because of it (shortage of tanks).

The main tank that got temp-banned is an A-hole but no one deserves this...

I actually can't believe that I haven't heard of this happening before.

I have access to the forums of the guild that did it. They have a few screenshots of purchasing the stuff under this guys characters name.

I am not sure how/why the guy accepted the gold, but if you randomly had gold sent to you, wouldn't you just take it?

Really really doubt anyone in the situation would get all goodie2shoes and report it instead of just taking it lol

Maybe, maybe not. I know on my server there are only 25 man ICC GDKP's going on. Many of them are ninjas though, and the amount of gold seller spammers has increased ten fold. Plus I get roughly seven or eight in game mails a day saying buy gold, you won a pet, you won a mount. Blah blah blah.

only a few gold seller sites also have hacks embedded somewhere.
as strange as it sounds, the gold sellers have a name to lose. so normally, the gold seller sites are clean. the scamming is another department.

I think it's a little far-fetched to believe this actually happened. For one thing, anyone with half a brain would not accept thousands of gold from a source they've never seen or talked to without reporting it to a GM. Also, how were the GMs notified of the gold transaction in the first place? If someone from the competing guild reported him on suspicion of purchasing gold, how would they have known that he did it unless he told them? And why would he tell anyone that he did something against the EULA. I'm just saying that there are a lot of details in here that are very fuzzy and I doubt this actually happened.

If the person who got caught with gold is claiming that someone else bought it to get him kicked from the game, then obviously he's telling the truth...right? The guild that supposedly purchased the gold and sent it to him would not possibly be able to advertise that they had done it or the players in that guild would be openly admitting that they had gotten him banned for something that they did, thus putting themselves at risk of being banned. So they only way that this information could be obtained is from the person who did get banned, but what reason does he have for telling the truth and saying that he's a moron that bought gold and got caught? Unless you are actually the person who did this or you are in the guild that did it and they announced it in Vent or something there's no way you could know this happened for real.

I beg to differ. Assholes deserve bad things happening to them. And since he accepted the gold, he's also stupid. Stupid Assholes definitely deserve bad things.
