Warning: Wall o' Text inc.
I've been playing WoW since late 2005 (with some breaks), and it seems like I really have either a bad luck or bad realms to play - here's my story:
I started with an Undead Priest, leveled him as Holy in vanilla WoW. When I got to maximum level, there weren't many raiding guilds on my realm (Laughing Skull-EU), there was basically one uber-great guild doing BWL+ stuff and a few smaller guilds. I finally got into one and even almost cleared MC (which was a great experience for me, because I couldn't find any guild who would want me back then) - had just 2 bosses left, I even remember that we downed one boss on the first try after I ninjapulled him (yeah, I was 13 back then). After that I dunno what happened, but somehow I had to stop playing and came back a long time later - in BC.
I then noticed that shadowpriests are now an option, so I decided to go shadow for the expansion. It was really cool, I found a really fun guild and after a month or so we cleared Karazhan together with Nightbane (might've screwed up the name, it's the dragon you need to summon), but then a few people left the guild and I got kicked from the guild because I "emoted /sleep while the RL was explaining tactics". Being a kid, I thought that those people were douchebags and I tried to find another guild and I did - but that guild was stuck in Kara and never even had enough people to go for Gruul/Maggie, while the better guilds didn't need shadowpriests, QQ. I lost my will to play the game then and froze my account.
When I got a bit older and WotLK came out, I decided I'll make a new start - I generally have bad relations with people, so I decided I'll make a tank (everybody love tanks, right...?)... but the tank was a DK. Yeah, you can laugh now, but I had no idea about their reputation back then, I just loved the class, the lore behind it and the mechanics. A guy I met on a party actually dragged me back in, promising he'll make a spot in his high-end guild for me, since his guild apparently needed tanks (he was a drood). However, when I got to level 80 and got the best possible heroic gear + enchants and some PuG Naxx items and asked him for a spot in a guild, he was mute for a few days and then said "sorry pal, but they don't want you". I got really angry and started to look for a guild on another server (oh yeah, my friend's guild was on Argent Dawn EU) and found one on Azjol-Nerub EU (was a guild of only the people from my country, an advanced one too, and they accepted my application) so I transferred my DK there. The guild collapsed about 2 weeks after I joined, but another guild was born from it, and I joined it. After a few weeks doing 25mans with them, a lot of people started to slack, not show up on raids, and then the guild became 10-man only, which pissed off the slackers (ironic, isn't it?), and most of them left the guild, leaving me and a few friends in. But, because I love raiding, I started to look for a new guild and I found one - one of the top 3 guilds on AN Horde side, and they took me for a trial to tank IC. It was supposed to be a 2 week trial, and I attended EVERY raid for 2 weeks and did my best (the tank officer said i'm better than any DK tanks they ever had), but on the last day when we were about to try Rotface and Festergut, I had a bad day (personal issues) and I screwed up on trash 2 times or so, apologized people for it, but no one responded. After the raid I asked the tank officer whether they're gonna accept my application, and he said that the vote went 1 for (him) and 7 against, after one bad goddamn day. I got really pissed again, since I sacrificed a lot of time to get the best possible gear (I'm no AH player, getting those IC-recipe boots and powerleveling JC was a really intense achievement for me) to be as good as I can be for the guild, and they rejected me after one bad damn day. I stopped playing and decided I'll come back in Cata.
Now here's my question - taking into account my past/bad luck, should I even continue trying to get into an advanced raiding guild? If so, then how will I determine if they are elitist douchebags, noobs with no skill, jerks, or normal people? I really hate when a lot of hard work goes to nothing, are there any realms with mostly friendle people or something? I might consider rerolling in Cata, maybe even to Alliance, but I really don't know what to do, because it seems like every time I try to get into a raiding guild, something fucks up and I'm left with nothing.
Sorry for the wall of text and bad English, I'm a Pole :
