Low dps on my Arcane Mage

I need help with my dps on my arcane mage

I use the rotation that is suggested and i only get anywhere from 1800 to 2200 dps. is this bad for a level 80 mage.

There are many things that could lead to this. Bad gear, bad spec, bad playing. Make sure you are ALWAYS casting. A half second wait between two spells is a massive loss of damage.

If you are in all leveling greens, 1800 dps may be fairly baseline for you. All 232 epics, not so much so.

Your gemming is pretty retarded to start with.
In blue sockets (You need atleast 2 blue gems for the META, you should get the chaotic one) put sp + spirit. In yellow sockets you put sp + haste. In red sockets i'd put sp + haste aswell since your haste is very low for a arcane mage.

Yes, its bad. Your spec is a little off and your glyphs are just plain nasty. Go copy the 57/3/11 spec off the mage FAQ. As regards to glyphs, you should be using Glyph of Arcane Blast, Arcane Missiles, Molten Armor.

Only reason i can think you are using Glyph of Mage Armor is cos you are using it... dont. Molten armor is the way forward. If you are going oom fast (which looking at your mana, you may be) clear your stacks with a A.Barrage at 2 or 3 instead of 4. Mana gem soon as you lose 4k mana, then Evocation at 40%. Mana is the only reason i can think of as to how your dps can be that low as i did more in worse gear. Don't be such a stickler for the ABx4 M.Barr. Play around with it and sometimes get better results at lower gear levels, is what i found.

Change meta gem to chaotic skyflare diamond.

Change your glyphs of evocation and mage armor to molten armor and arcane blast.

Change your spec to include icy floes and icy veins.

Dont use stamina/penetration gems, use spell power in red and sp+haste in yellow. SP+spirit in enough blues to generate the meta and put them in the ones with highest socket bonus.

You have enough hit for heroics and raid (with raid buffs) even without that hit gem, especially if you put an extra talent into elemental precision when you get icy veins.

Use an offhand or get a staff.

It's also better to take points out of arcane stability and put them in arcane subtlety and magic attunement.

Additionally 3 points in incineration (fire) is standard for 6% extra crit on ab.

Stop gemming based on socket colour, gem based on stats you lack. And do some dailies and buy some epic gems, or spend some honor and get em cut.

Copy that spec, but the points into IA and Slow are not necessary and can be used elsewhere
If you copy that spec, you should require around 289 hit rating to become hit capped, but i suppose since your an alliance player you might benefit from Draneni Aura.....
Use major glyphs of Molten Armour, Arcane Blast and Arcane missiles

Your gems = Change meta gem to chaotic skyflare diamond.
Make sure you include 2 blue gems to suffice your meta, use sp + spirit
In red slots use 23 sp. yellow slots use 12sp + 10 haste, and dont gem to fit socket bonuses all the time, a 23 sp gem is better than a +9 sp socket bonus, and dont use Spell penetration, thats for PvP

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, GET AN OH OR USE A STAFF

Your enchants are weak in some places, for the shoulder enchant get the one from the Sons of Hodir, 24 sp and 15 crit...

For gear, please change your boots, you dont need frost resi...
You dont really want to go for MP5 (in reference to your cape)

every one here has said pretty much what you should do.

i would say run heroic forge of souls for seethe and find an off-hand somewhere.
i believe you can get one with rep from kirin tor in dalaran (not a great one but at least you'll have something.)

id also replace the spell power enchant on the blade with black magic

whenever you do happen to replace those boots i would put ice walker on them. ( i think reg 5man toc has some)

you can also pick up the talisman of resurgence to replace ur blue trink ( cant remember where it drops but i thinks it's badge gear)

but yea follow everyones advice on spec and gems and you'll be alright.

and just to further stress it: change the meta to chaotic skyflare diamond asap!

Your spell power is fine for your gear, if you want more of it, get better gear (duuh). Don't gem int or spirit. Just read the links and posts by the other posters, and do exactly what they say, and it should help. If not... I dunno, roll a bm hunter....

1800 is god awfull for your gear , heck , even my lvl 70 warlock is near 2000 dps on single targets.
well , to be somewhat constructive , go read up on the mage sticky.

Offhand:
* Farm HoR Heroic . The Escape from Lich King has a chance of drop Shriveled Heart
* While you farm for it, at least get the BoE offhand from inscription.

Main Hand:
* Get seethe from FoS heroic
* Enchant Seethe with Black Magic

Boots:
* Get the Tailoring boots
* Alternatively get PvP Boots with haste
* Enchant Tuskarr's Vitality

Trinket:
* Abyssal Rune is fine
* Get Talisman of Resurgence since you're arcane (50 triumph emblems)

Belt:
* Farm HoR Heroic: get Strip of Remorse from Escape from Lich King
* Put Eternal Belt Buckle on it

Cloak:
* Farm ToC heroic for Kurisu's Indecision
* Or buy Cloak of Displacement
* Or get Wrathful Gladiator's Cloak of Subjugation (PvP)
* Enchant Formula: Enchant Cloak - Haste

Other tips:
* Start doing daily Heroic for Frost Emblems : Buy Head, Shoulders and Robe
* Enchant Shoulders with the Sons of Hodir enchant (Greater Inscription of the Storm)
* Enchant Head with Kirin Tor enchant (Arcanum of Burning Mysteries)
* Buy Chaotic Skyflare Diamond as a Mage you should have it ALWAYS
* You need 2 blue gems to activate "Chaotic Skyflare Diamond": put 2 "Purified Dreadstone" in blue sockets
* On the rest of Blue sockets: Put "Reckless Ametrine" (Red and Yellow) gem
* On yellow sockets: Put "Reckless Ametrine"
* On Red sockets: Put "Runed Cardinal Ruby"
* Arcane Blast, Molten Armor and Arcane Missiles Glyphs. For minors, use frost and fire ward
* Read the forum stickies (for DPS rotations and such)

* If your Mage is your main: get Engineering or Tailoring to increase your DPS

Engineering gets:
* Boots Enchant Nitro Boosts
* Gloves Enchant Hyperspeed Accelerators

When you get at least 5k dps:
* Start looking for ICC rep runs At friendly buy the ring (pref with crit and haste)
* Start doing VoA 10 and 25for the tier 10 Gloves and Legs that drop there.
* Buy Leggings of Woven Death (Tailoring)
