If you want top-performers, you can go with Prolimatech Megahalems, Thermalright Venomous-X or Noctua NH-D14.
If you're looking for the best bang for the buck, you can take a look at Scythe Mugen or Scythe Ninja.

I think he is saying so because WoW at certain points prefers more MHz over more cores. Anyway, I doubt that a CoreDuo outperforms an i7 in places like 25m Raids.

I'm well aware of what WoW prefers, but a Core2Duo at 3-3.5ghz, is not going to out perform an i7, even at base clocks. The i5/i7 is just a completely more efficient platform.

Now this isn't saying the C2D is bad, but its not in the same league as the i5/i7.

I'm really surprised nobody called this one out. An E8400 @ 3.6GHz will not outperform an i7 9xx @ 3GHz. No chance. The Core i architecture is just too much more efficient than the C2D architecture. Clock speed means a lot, but it's not absolutely everything.

not to hijack the thread, but my raid schedule leaves me with a lot of free time, we rush through 11/12 25m hm's in like an 1 hour 45 min, doesn't leave much to do the rest of the week, lol.

ya, my raid schedule leaves me with a lot of free time. I think between doing 11/12 25m hm and halion... we raid a total of 2 hours a week. </hijack>

Damn hijackers... lucky we aint airborne...

Anyway back to topic: Someone here said Scythe Ninja - I know the store that I bought my system from is normaly using this CPU cooler.. is it recommended? ... And wouldn't a big processor like mine (6 cores) requiere better / stronger cooler than a, lets say quad?

simply said, no. Amount of cores means nothing vs the power load the cpu draws.

    Ok

Well after playing like 1 hour of APB my CPU gets to a "stable" 64*C it's hot, but no reboot etc showing that my CPU gets hurt ... Until my computer start to reboot itself I will not do any actions versus new CPU Cooler, however IF it is needed I will buy a good new one and then experiement with OC

Thanks to all who have added to this topic, answered alot of my questions!

keep in mind when buying a new heat sink a lot of the 120mm fans that come with them are junky. You want a good ball bearing 120mm fan that creates a lot of static pressure. Kind've the opposite of a heavy cfm pushing case fan.

Most heat sink makers cheap out in this area and throw in junky 120mm case fans.

What are you using to measure your temperatures? Perhaps your software is reporting actual core temperatures, while AMD's "max temp" is likely tCase (temp at the center of the heat spreader covering the cores). tCase is usually about 10*C lower than actual core temperature, meaning you might about 8*C below max temp, rather than 2*C over max temp.

I am using CPUID HWmonitor and im looking at the temp under processor (1 temp for each core) So frankly I don't know if this is the tCase or the CPU temp hmm

    Edit: added a screenshot.

Green box is the temp I am looking at.

I am not sure what the red box is (something NB stuff?) but I don't understand why it is THAT hot either...

Yeah, 6 cores is a little over the top for WoW. Hell I still use my 3.06Gz core duo for WoW. My Nvidia 8800 still pulls 60 fps out of dalaran on max settings and resolution.

I will probably make a computer in the next year or buy one because some some companies have dropped their prices to just above DIY

at what resolution? an 8800 gt and a 3.06 core2duo is not going to pull those resolutions in dalaran at 1920x1080(1200)

    1920x1200

I guess I led you on. My server has a really low population. So the FPS is easier to get than on a larger server.
