Arrow AMD vs. Intel vs. Nvidia vs. ATI

Which of these processors and video cards do you prefer, which are you using currently?? Have you had any problems with any of them that wouldn't make you go back?

whoever makes the best performing product for the tech generation.

I don't see this thread lasting long.

Motorola processors are really good, and PowerVr was a blast, wait..

I personally get giggley when I see a multi CPU Power PC based UNIX system.

Video is a Palit GTS450. Main display is a 24" full HD TV. Secondary display is an ACER 19" lcd at 1440x900.

Ive used both, but my personal prefference is Intel + ATI

Same as above, Intel and ATI for me. Supremacy has changed hands regularly over the last decade, but for the moment I believe ATI is on top; Not sure between Intel and AMD. I can imagine it would be tie for this generation, Intel offering the high-end processors i7 and i5, with AMD offering good bang for buck quad processors.

It all depends on how much money you have to spend. If you have money NVIDIA is the best, but if you don't ATI is better value. But then it depends on driver support. Upto until a few weeks ago the new NVIDIA cards were getting out performed by ATI, then they released drivers and perfomance increased by a decent amount. I stick with 'if you have money to spend' = NVIDIA; value for money = ATI.
With CPUs I would always go for an Intel i7.

current benchmarks have nvidia on top. their past 2 driver releases moved the fermi based cards way way ahead of ati.

If talking straight performance intel is way ahead of amd for processor performance. The GTX 480 out performs all ati cards from a single processor basis, and the gtx 460 has been out doing ati's lower end performance spectrum i.e. the 5770 and 5830.

Tbh Nvidea made a very good card with a nice price. the GTX 460 for 250 euros

well, its all about bang for your buck in fairness. You can spend 500 on a video card that gets you 15 more FPS in a game than say a €400 card. is the 15 more frames worth €100? So it's personal preference.

I had an 8800gtx as my old card. great card. Next card I bought was the ati 5870 after the nvidia one failed. So far the 5870 is the best card I've ever had as It's the only card straight out of the box that can play the latest games on the highest settings on max.

in terms of procs, I tend to go with intel. The i-series processors are so god damn amazing.

so can the gtx 480... at about 20-25% better performance But I agree, once you reach a certain point.

where the GTX 480 shines well over the 5870 is SLI scaling outright crushes crossfire. And the 5870 cannot play all of the latest games at max settings. Try maxing out metro 2033, gta4, or bfbc2

Edit: now which card is best for you, is your opinion.

So long as people remain civil, I'll allow it to continue. I have no problem with people citing benchmarks or even just stating personal preference, but the instant the "brand wars" begin, it's getting locked and someone's getting banned.

yep.. so far so good, I keep forgetting I'm not on a comp hardware specific site. If it were, this page would already be 90 pages long and my mother would've been insulted in 6 different languages lol.

That's why I tend to stick to overclock.net as a hardware forum. It's pretty well split. Intel people stay on their side; AMD people stay on their side; nVidia people stay on their side; ATi people stay on their side. Tons of information without the "OMG! Brand X is SOOOOOOOO much better than Brand Y. I have no facts to back that up, however".

I go over on overclock pretty often, there and extremesystems. I like their water cooling threads (which we should have, cough cough)

    Processor- Intel
    NVIDIA-GPU
    Kingston-SDRAM

I prefer these brands but they are also more expensive and depending on the situation I will use an alternate brand.

Here's a review that has the relative performance of a GTX 460 SLI setup:
    http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/N...60_SLI/25.html

    Drivers used for GTX400/Radeon 5800/5970: 258.80 and Catalyst 10.6

They retest the 5800 series and GTX400 series with the latest drivers from both companies and compile the relative performance and priceerformance charts based on the value and performance of GTX460 SLI. The GTX470 clearly has taken leaps over the 5850, which at launch it was pretty much on par with and approaches the 5870, but higher than 1680x1050 and you'll see the 5870 take fairly large steps over the 470. The limited bandwidth of the GTX460 SLI clearly shows at higher resolutions where it should beat the 5970 but doesn't.

Mehh, the 460 Sli numbers are much more interesting for the great majority of population, specially has in Sli they preform above the 480, up by 23% while costing around 40$ less.
The PpD graph's are interesting has well.
