    laptop

ok so ive been looking around at laptops and i found the Sony vaio for $999 and i was wondering if this model would run wow on high-ultra settings:

    Intel® Core™ Quad i7-740QM processor (1.73GHz) with Turbo Boost up to 2.93GHz
    Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    320GB Hard Disk Drive (5400rpm)
    4GB (2GBx2) DDR3-SDRAM-1333
    DVD +/- R DL / DVD +/- RW / DVD-RAM Drive
    16.4" VAIO Display (1600x900)
    NVIDIA® GeForce® 310M GPU (512MB VRAM)

I would compare the GPU versus other desktops to see how it compares in stats. Thats a powerful laptop but the card seems a bit medium grade if you ask me.

You can see the 310m is on the low end when comparing the card to desktop cards. I'd say no, not ultra but maybe good on all settings. Not sure to be 100% honest. Its a lower end GPU on a higher end laptop.

Hey, if you have the extra money I'd highly recommend the Asus G73JH for $1199. I've had this laptop for over 4 months now and it ran WoW on ultra everywhere including Dalaran and 25 man raids. The laptop is fantastic for the price you pay, and several reviews will tell you that you can get no better laptop for the price. Check it out at:

For about $100 more (after rebate) you could step your cpu down a tad and get this with a much better video card.

That also has a 7200 rpm drive which make noticeable difference in laptops if you are opening programs a lot.

Compare the specs, look up the card and see where it sits with the other cards. Use the links I gave you and make an educated decision.

The 5400rpm drives sony put in their laptops can be pretty darn slow, even to the point to where loading times in wow becomes seriously bothersome. I'd go with a 7200rpm drive.

As to the graphics card, I'm absolutely positively convinced you will have a much better time with GT 425M rather than 310M, especially if you enjoy the new liquid detail introduced in Cataclysm and want to run say 2x multisampling.

Here are some more info on 425M vs 310M.
