like most people i liked the zombie event for the first few days, then coming across there's no ah or npc and just zombies, i griefed back but cleansing all the zombie i could see.

I was one of these 'newer players' mentioned on this thread. I started my subscription on 13/10/08, according to my account management page. Roughly ten days later, the entire world was covered in zombies and the like. I was roughly level 20 or so at the time, taking things slow and enjoying the game. But then?

I couldn't quest anymore till the zombie event was over. Even on a medium-pop realm like my own, everywhere I went the questgivers and shopkeepers would be zombified. I tried to escape to Darkshore at one point, to see if I could quest there instead, but both Auberdine and Maestra's Post were full of zombies.

I'm sure a lot of people had fun during this event. There were great and fun moments in this event for me too. But in general? I'd rather not experience people running after me to kill me and turn me to a zombie time after time, when all I bought the game for was to experience the game.

This event is a lot better at avoiding interruptions for newer players, if you can, you can mostly avoid it, with the exception of level appropriate rifts, which you can actually fight at your level. There were advantages to the zombie event, and there are advantages to this event. As said, they were both great events, and although my personal preference is this one, it is OK to disagree. It's a one-time thing, and who knows what we'll get with the next xpac.

People were crying their eyes out that they couldn't do their dailies a few weeks before wotlk launch.

Thats like crying that your boss has given you a day off work to go to an amusement park. Please let me do my repetetive and boring tasks in peace! I will have none of your fun!

It's sort of that damned if you do damned if you don't situation
I think that covers it right there, no matter what there are people that are going to complain. I had fun when the zombie event hit, but I was also lvl capped and there wasn't much left to do at that point except wait for wrath. Overall however, there were A LOT of complaints about the event and how it interfered with people's ability to play the game. It was an event scenario where griefers flourished, or at least that's what the community felt like. Therefore they come out with this version of it and bam, people are now complaining saying the zombie invasion was better.

Regardless, one thing I do like about this is the community aspect of it. As much as I like the LFD tool, I do miss getting a group together by sending tells to people in trade/on your server and eventually finding that one group of people you run really well/have amazing dynamics with and making more friends on your server by doing so. That's why I like the invasion in the cities, it's a rush to have people spamming trade "PST if U want invite to org raid!" and forming up raids to defend the towns. As soon as you save org everyone ports over to TB to do the same! (except the first day, when people just stood patting themselves on the back after saving org and forgot about TB =/)

I think this is a case of the vocal minority speaking for the majority. I know a lot of people that loved the zombie event, but the few that hated it were the ones that went to the forums to complain about it.

Really, OP? Really? Can you be anymore disillusional? I don't think so.

To clarify: Sure... maybe it wasn't because of the "griefing" you enjoyed it, you just enjoyed it because you were able to turn random NPCs into zombies and such, not because you could kill other people of your faction. Lets say you like it like that.

Well, either way you look at it, it caused griefing. It was fun for the minority of the high level playerbase I'm sure, but I can't imagine what it must have been like for new players. People were forced to participate, which caused a shitstorm. Blizzard listens to their players.

Even if you say it's just the minority who griefed, you can't ignore the pure facts that it caused a massive shitstorm, the likes of which has never been seen before.

    WAY TO GO DUDE!

I'm pretty sure OP won't be responding to his/her thread anymore for obvious reasons.

OH PLEASE NO NOT THE EVENTS, do keep my game empty and dull

I thought the Zombie event was awesome. I mean, it really felt threatening when you couldn't do anything at all....right?!

Elemental invasion has been unimpressive in my opinion.

My favorite still has to be the AQ events.....that was great!

    I am? Oh...yes. I actually am.

Take it from the dinosaurs, the end of the world is pretty inconvenient.

As for the Zombie event...I personally loved becoming a Zombie and sitting in cool Zombie places and trying elaborate schemes to convince people to come there with my Zombie buddies so we can maul them ("Free lockpicking at the Mage Tower in SW!" being the most successful, particularly in the case of the poor sap who tried to get me to lockpick his box AFTER he was a Zombie). When lots of people were being zombies it was also fun to hunt them down or escort people with dispels. Troll or not, seeing the entire server rage at something is amusing.

The flipside to that is the new and innocent people who started playing a game, maybe for the first time...and they have to deal with that. It must've sucked but well, jerk that I am, I liked it anyway. Being a Zombie for a week or two was awesome and hunting zombies in your hometown was fun as hell. The Elementals are much less fun by comparison but oh well, at least it doesn't interfere with people that are new and don't know what's going on anywhere near as much.

I for one, hated it. It was incredibly stupid. Maybe its just me but I don't enjoy being griefed....my guess would be that thats why they call it griefing, because it isn't fun for the other person.

Nice try though with straw manning your way to a reason as to why you think it sucked, "Oh well.... umm... If you enjoyed the event you were a griefer, and um... we don't like griefers..."

That's not to say that I don't enjoy the elemental invasion(or at least I did the first time I defended the city, now I just go to Dalaran when it happens), but to imply that the zombie invasion was good for griefers and bad for everyone else is just a slap in the face.
Griefing had everything to do with why I hated the event.

You may as well just stopped playing alts that week because your quest npcs were going to be dead constantly and players on the same faction were going to be killing you.

It was fun when it wasn't used to harass lowbies, but that's what 99% of the players did. It also was not fun for melee classes since a zombie meleeing you meant you were a zombie in 2 hits or so. The whole event was flawed.

This elemental invasion isn't much better. Screwing up the cities every 3 hours gets old quick. It's fun the first time, miserable and/or boring every time after that.

The one, and ONLY reason I liked this event, was because there was a level 1 auction bot in Booty Bay camping 24/7 buying anything and everything and making sure anyone transferring items got stolen. He was killed constantly, and everyone who know him was happy to see it happen. Infact, I think I helped kill him myself a few times.

It's not a slap in the face, its much worser then the elemental invasion and not in a good way.

Many people hated it... and forcing peeps to undergo it was the griefing.... peeps with limited time each day getting waylaid by zombies and losing their playtime to running back from the GY.

Forcing anyone to participate in anything is a bad idea. The elemental invasion allows peeps ot leave if they don't want to participate and do their business elsewhere.

And yes there were PLENTY of peeps that griefed the living crap out of the cities.. it was funy at first.. but got old fast.
