Cut scenes - quantity or quality?

My thoughts on recent cut scenes are as follows: Cataclysm = quantity > quality. Seriously, the cut scene when Alexstrasza and Deathwing fight above Grim Batol? I would of thought they would of put more effort in the pre-rendering like they did at the Wrath Gate. Also, the end of Hyjal seemed mediocre. I don't know, maybe it is just me... I just felt like these particular events should of felt more epic and they didn't comparing them to what was produced during WOTLK.

WOTLK had way better events/cut scenes then Cataclysm in my opinion. Wrath Gate, Invasion of Undercity, Fall of the Lich King.

Blizz did implement your character in the cut scenes which was neat but something I can live without. I rather get into storyline of the heroes involved and be impressed by the level of quality of certain events that happen in-game.

your thoughts on quality of cut scenes in Cataclysm?

Quality over quantity, or else there is no reason in having cutscenes.

i want quality over quantity like all those in Uldum wtf cinematics without voice do they think im gonna read to the end nope escape skip

definitely quality > quantity, those cut scenes in Uldum were horrid >_< I only read all of it cuz I was interested in the story... and that blows too. Srsly Blizz give us 50% or even 70% less cut scenes but make them BETTAH!!!!

The goblin cut scene as you leave kezan is the best cut scene in the game IMO.

I don't think they have really done that bad, they have some cut scenes that are just as good as in wrath and some which are a bit worse but that's the price we have to pay to see more visual story line. Would you prefer to of just read about it in the quest log :P

Wouldn't you have rather seen Alexstrazsa and Deathwing fight in a pre-rendered scene rather than in-game? Seriously, Wrath gate was simply epic... Blizz has the resources but they just didn't have the time or the motive to do it again for this particular event and it think it would of been awesome.

Most of Uldums cutscenes were horrible, but the one where Harrison Jones saved my life by swinging on a rope I literally fell on the floor

I admit I have been a little disappointed with the cutscenes. Mostly because half the time they glitched out on me and had the camera pointed in the wrong direction, leaving chat bubbles off-screen, or characters hitting their marks too late or too early and leaving the cinematic hanging with all the characters awkwardly standing around until I skipped it. But even when they worked, I found the cinematics were made up of a lot of really slow pans, zooms, and pauses that seemed more out of technical limitation than direction. And having to read the dialogue from overhead bubbles doesn't work well in that format at all; it would be so much better if those lines were voiced in those scenes.

Basically, they showed us what they could do with real-time cutscenes in Starcraft 2 and set my expectations a little too high.

This....So much this... over half the cutscenes in uldum have made my char stare at a wall for the duration, I feel liked Ive missed so many cool things

It's not quality > quantity or quantity > quality or any general rule, it's that some of them are awesome and some of them are like "uh why did that go there." The cutscenes for worgen and goblins are awesome. I loved the cutscenes in the TH quests. The uldum cutscenes weren't ALL terrible, but a lot of them were uh... of questionable quality.

Cutscenes aren't ENTIRELY new, they had them forever of course, but multiple cutscenes while doing ordinary quests? Pretty new. I'm fine with the experiment.

I gotta say i enjoyed the cut scenes in Uldum, although they were not as flashy, i had no problem reading. I do also happen to love Indiana Jones movies (cept for the 4th) so it was kinda cool to play a role in Harrison Jones' "movie."

I agree, absolute majotiry of cutscenes in new locations suck. Either bugged or really unimpressive, they take away control of your character and mostly make you do stupid things like getting caught by primitive midgets or being escorted to execution without resistance or anything. Sometimes they're downright bugged. You kinda have the idea that you are supposed to be shown something epic, instead you just see a cannon moving as if it fired, and toes of several worgen getting into the frame. So I kinda guess that it was supposed to show how a cannon obliterates several worgen, but all I see is some bugs. I'm all for pre-rendered cinematics like Wrathgate. Quality over quantity.

I didn't mind the cutscenes at all, they tie quest sections together nicely. Many of the Uldum ones did seem rushed though, I've seen many where text bubbles are halfway off the screen, etc.

There were too many cut scenes.. They are supposed to be only used in epic situations like at the wrath gate, that was epic. Now I'm leveling in uldum, OH LOOK, another cut scene... *Goes to get drink*. Kinda sucks.

I really enjoyed the new cutscene initiative Blizz took with storytelling in Cata. Works really well with the terrain phasing so that when you complete an important quest, you see some flashy storytelling, then later come back and really see the difference you made (obelisk activation, world pillar, etc.).

Gets an 'A' in my book.

I personally enjoyed every single one because it was like "Hey, a cutscene!" Then I would see my character interacting within the actual cutscene (and that is why they were not pre-rendered like the wrathgate one). The Uldum ones especially were fantastic. They really made you feel involved with what was going on. They could have just had the npcs act out their thing while you watch but that wouldn't have had the same affect.

You could argue that they are pushing quantity over quality, but they could just not put them in. Or if they bother you that much and *gasp* reading is beyond you you can just push escape and continue on your merry little way like someone else said earlier.

EDIT: And there are things that they can do now with the cutscenes that they couldn't do before. Harrison Jones swinging off the giant statues and breaking them comes to mind. It is another tool for them to tell the quest stories, and its pretty new so they might have over done it a bit. Kinda like vehicles in Wrath were just everywhere. They want to show off their new tech and all.

I think what Blizz is trying to do is very "innovative" However, I'm still more impressed with the Wrathgate. I like how they implement your character in the cut scenes but in my opinion I get a more epic feeling when Blizzard takes their time and produces events like Wrath Gate or Fall of the Lich king.

I enjoyed the wrath quality cutscenes better, however, the way they are doing them now is fine. My only real problem is that every other cutscene is bugged and will stop mid-scene, forcing me to hit escape and miss parts of it.

Wrathgate was the most annoying cutscene, such cheesy and stupid text.
Killing the Lich King with the following cutscene, it was painful to listen to the end, really really badly done.

Cataclysm has some good and some bad cutscenes, but nowhere as terrible as the WotLK ones.

That is your opinion, fair enough. I still feel like WOTLK cut scenes were better then Cata's.
