You know, I recall signing up in mid beta for an invite the very next day I got one Granted it was a VIP Key From curse. My advice is not to sweat it, many people don't get the key until late night the day right before it starts. However you should get it right before the beta. Since this is now an Open Beta, they have deal with the largest number of people signing up then in the recent closed beta

I got my invite a week ago. Doesn't really matter though, I won't be going on it.

Ah cheers, is there any way to download the game client before i get the inv ?

Yes rift website has a link to it. They send out the beta invites in waves. So really depends when you opted in. It's possible you won't get your invite until the beta as already started. Once again depending on wen you opted in. All this information can be found on the rift website using the search function.
