    A well thought out idea.

    Runemaster was originally what the first hero class was going to be, but Blizz decided to go with Death Knight due to the Lich King xpac and all.

    That being said, the closest I see to this coming out is a "Monk" class. Blizzard is currently trying to get away from duplicate power sources like mana and adding more unique class specific mechanics like Focus and Holy Power. So many of your ideas may see fruition in the form of a monk without the rune system.

    you beat me to it.

    been working on a class cover like you did here all with a monk class in mind.

    I love the idea and Monks are just pure win (would drop my warr witch i played for 6 years in a heartbeat if there was a monk class)

    Your ideas is much like the once i thought of, ut ofc i need to add someting.

    Blizz like to use names and items already ingame, thus i think the class name would be something we have all seen alot of while playing wow over the last 6 years.
    -Scarlet monk (let`s face it.. we have all had our face beaten by them)
    -energy system like the warriors rage, but rage gen is scaled by dmg done + int
    -instead of making a whole new set of armour for one class (and thus letting blizz stay lazy and comgy in their seats) talent that let`s the Monk use int as attack power
    -letting them use thrown weapons while running
    -and (taking this idea from rift) the healig done i see much like the choloromancer class in rift. They cast dmg spells on the enemy and when an dmg attack is done to the mob there is a % healing taking place all dependant on how much dmg is done and spell power of the monk (ofc there would also be direct healing )

    Thanks for the input everyone. I'm almost done with the talent trees. If you guys have any further suggestions, let me know.

    Its good to see the interest in the class exploding. There's actually another Runemaster thread on the front page.

    hmmm kinda reminds me of that guy in full metal alchemist scar the ishbalan , the one with the dark glasses that had tattoes on his arm and went about exterminating homoculi

    I think its a great idea, also I think some of the comments were good as well, if you get enough good support here maybe try on the official forums, although they can be very unresponsive or just cruel at times, thanks for the good post

    You might want to check how DKs come to be. Blizzard wanted to create a new class and they were thinking about necromancers and runemasters (probably others too, but don't remember). Would be weird if they decided to create either of these now as a separate class. Aside from that, people were asking for a quite some time for runemasters as a class (aswell as blademasters, monks and pirates lol) and apparently Blizzard dosn't give a damn - No matter how polished your idea is, you gonna waste your time.

    Just because they were on the table but ultimately rejected for WotLK doesn't necessarily mean they can be ruled out in the future. Goblins for example were on the table in both Vanilla and BC, and were finally implemented Cataclysm. It's very possible the next time Blizzard is building a new class, they'll take another look at Runemasters.

    Will they take someone's idea word-for-word? Probably not, but that doesn't mean the player's vision won't influence how the class turns out.
    Roleplaying, hardcore Raiding, running LFR on the occasional weekend, PvPing, rolling alts, achievement hunting, pet battling, or just enacting an endless series of whims, I don't care how you play WoW. Just as long as you have fun doing it.

    The immediate problem I see when just skimming the post is that Runemasters put runes on their body or deconstruct armor/weapons into runes.

    If we take the trend of how often Blizzard revamps entire parts of the game, we can assume it'll be 3 years until character models are revamped.

    Runes on the body means that you'll have to see the runes. Means that models will have to be constructed to accommodate single or multiple runes of every shape, color, size, glow, whatever for every race and sex, for each body part. Redoing underwear or creating 'rune' armor sets that have 'sockets' to put runes into to show up on the body still means an armor texture/skin/model for each different rune, place, part, etcetcetc...

    I mean, it sounds reaaallllllllllly cool, and it makes me want to play some sick PC game where they actually have the resources to dedicate themselves wholly to the correct creation and implementation of a fully visualized Runemaster class/main character...but I can't see it being done right in WoW. I could see it in WoW, as I'm sure runic power and runes would be funner to play with for the new hero class than the overdone mana bit, and the new class should be support/heals, but I can't see it being done right. Almost solely based on the kind of game WoW is.

    The models wouldn't really have to change, since this would just be an armor type, but instead of it being regular type of armor, its armor that's simply on the skin. Blizzard adds new armor to the game all the time, and the armor they add is way more complex than body runes would be, which are just glowing marks on a character.

    noting a primary issue, healers are supposed to run out of resources eventually.
    Encounters would be a pain to deal with, when working with a healer that can heal forever

    Mana + secondary resource is fine, but a rune system like dk's have wouldn't work.

    On a note to muse on, i always wondered why there was no instant healer. We have hot healers, single target specialist healers, Aoe healers, and mitigation. Why no healers based on speed? Mostly instant heals, with larger healing spells being casted.

    A nifty idea would be a rune bar that could be filled with any type of rune during combat, and then consumed.
    8 rune slots, and the 2 types of runes. Two types of mana to rune charging spells. Each of these spells powering 3-4 rune slots with a certain type of rune.
    Using a recharge ability, any runes that would fill a slot over the 8 slots will overwrite the rune slot(s) that has been up for the longest.

    basic go to efficient heal uses 1 rune and is instant cast, using the larger heal takes 2 + cast time. (2.5 second base)
    No need to make an expensive fast cast heal if the focus is already on speed.
    aoe healing has two forms. Ranged targets (targets all targets that are out of melee range)
    and self targeted aoe (heals anyone nearby)

    spellstorm(arcane + nature), and spellfire (arcane + fire) as the two types of runes.

    Why dual type runes? So that utility spells can be arcane rune based, but use any active rune.

    Healing be nature rune based, offense being fire rune based.

    I like the idea of keeping mana, but players must convert mana into their class resource somewhat regularly.
    Would skip over the entire design flaw of a healer with infinite duration healing in pve and pvp. and still scale regen wise like a normal healer.

    This would counterbalance the instant healing, as it would require a little bit of preparation to be able to use it more than once or twice.

    This would result in a class that wears caster gear for healing, and probably for dps roles as well.
    Tanking would be interesting in caster gear. How to work with stam, int, mastery, haste, crit into defensive stats? Could go the druid route for mitigation based on offense.
    Or go for leather gear so you could use feral itemization to have agi to dodge working with you, instead of caster stats.

    I think Caster cloth tank would be awesome. armor multiplier with a certain selfbuff up (duration of 10 min or something) a talent that treats Spirit as being both dodge and parry rating. (spirit on an item means you can't reforge another stat to dodge/parry, or alternatively make spirit dodge and mastery parry) Then stam int spirit mastery gear would be tanking gear. Would be odd to see a tank using caster 1h + caster OH though.

    the dps spec should not want spirit gear (it would be ridiculous to have a class be able to use one armor set for any spec)
    tanking and healing gear sharing would work for me though.

    Tanking and dps could work as int = 1 ap + 1 sp.
    and have moves that deal physical and arcane damage.

    Yeah, this is why I left the resource system out of the this topic by and large, because it could be an issue. However, I think mana could work as a resource since Runemasters are a sort of melee spellcaster, and their abilities are magic based. I do like your idea of a Rune system tied to mana. That would allow a Runemaster to be a "melee healer", but also not be completely invincible with an unlimited resource.

    im just gonna ask give me some lore on it and i maybe could get into it. only thing is runes are kinda a dk thing soo idk if it would work.
