woah... that dude is fucking built and he's called Thor... I thin he'll be okay , the mountain doesn't exactly need to be a fantastic actor, he just needs to be scary as fuck and that guy really really is.

As for Locke being sent to take the black... Not sure where they're going with that, but I don't like it...

Yeah he should look seriously menacing in costume. Can't wait to see his big fight scene!

As for the Locke thing, same, I don't like where it's headed because it will be a lot of new material at the expense of what is in the books. The show hasn't really disappointed me yet and I'm not surprised to see it going more and more "off script" (so to speak) but still, that's a really huge diversion. Maybe they're writing in new material to buy Martin book writing time! They are getting awfully close to book 5 and it's clear each season of the show comes at a significantly faster pace than Martin is writing book 6 at!

The Mountain recast should work, the Mountain from S1 was a stunt guy with very little acting experience, to play the Mountain properly all you've got to do is pretend to be pissed off.

As for the Locke thing, yeah its strange, but it could be leading up to Jons final scenes in Book 5, if you know what I mean.

The recast thats shocked me is Michiel Huisman as Daario, I did not see that recast coming, I thought Ed Skrein had got it down pretty well.

I was thinking that as well regarding Jon. It may be a way to connect that scenario to an established show character (Locke essentially now taking the roles of both Vargo Hoat and Bowen Marsh).

The Daario recasting was odd, I agree. The Daario of the show was not at all what I'd imagined in the books, but none of the eastern peoples are depicted on-screen as they are in the books. Huisman doesn't look any more the part than Skrein did so it is odd. I thought Skrein totally brought the roguish silvertongued sliminess needed for Daario.

Really? Coz I though Skrein was fucking AWEFUL, he was the biggest miscast on the show IMO. Didn't look right, didn't act right.... he was pretty much wrong across the board, I've not been this "dafuq?" about a casting since Shae.

As for Locke... I'm wondering, could it be that he's taking the part of Slynt? He was sent to the wall wasn't he? Maybe for some reason Slynt's actor pulled out and instead of recasting him, they just use Locke/Hoat as a replacement, seeing as Locke has very little left to do in the series.

I thought Skrein was slimey enough to be Daario but I'm not sad at the role being re-cast either.

Slynt has been in the show though, and while the show does not need to adhere to the books (clearly), Slynt was in a position of power in King's Landing before going to the wall, whereas Locke has not been so. It would be feasible however to merge his role into Locke as well though.
It would make dramatic sense, as too many villains tends to overwhelm an audience.

Slynt's actor is apparently in S4, so eh, maybe Locke will take over a role like Bowen Marsh's.

Well, who am I kidding, he'll probably be a petty and evil filler villain to fluff up Jon's otherwise slow arc before the Wall siege, but one can dream...

Having seen what HBO did when they were given full control over True Blood, I REALLY hope Martin keeps control and doesn't let them make up stupid shit just to kill time or pad out seasons.

Just because Locke is being sent to the Wall doesn't mean he'll make it there. How many people in this show actually end up where they're traveling to? I wouldn't be surprised if he, Rorge, and Biter get sent to the Wall, and wind up encountering Brienne again somewhere along the way, either somewhere along the Kingsroad, or at Saltpans (perhaps if they kill their escort to the Wall and escape).

Agreed on Skrein. We were supposed to get a swarthy, leering, lascivious, swaggering, "don't give a fuck about proprieties" sellsword. Instead we get this over-the-top saccharin sweet, overly romantic pretty boy. Oh, he could swing a sword very well. The rest? Not Daario. (I thought the other, very rude and crude captain of the Storm Crows - who's name escapes me atm - made a better Daario)

    Slynt is still in.

I'm guessing Locke takes the black whilst running for his life from a very angry Tywin. What happens after? No idea. Maybe they'll give him a face turn and have him take Donal Noye's role.

That would be the "Titans Bastard" Disenchanted, and yeah I wish we'd got to see more of him.

As for Locke, I reckon he'll make it to the wall just to spice up the Walls later storylines. They changed Dany's storylines round to make them more exciting (not better, more exciting), and seeing as how the Wall is one of the low points of the later books, atleast imo, I reckon there looking ahead. It'd be daft of them to throw away an established character.

Thank you. Was having a total senior moment and just could not, for the life of me, remember.

Looks like Burn Gorman is coming back in for Season 4, which is great, even though he had only one scene, he nailed it, hopefully with the addition of him and Locke at the wall it should spice things up for next Season while we wait for Stannis to show up, which will undoubtably be the episode 9 of next season.

EDIT: Actually thinking about it, it would be loads better to have him run into Bran and co, since that will be boring as hell next season

Mark Gatiss' (Mycroft Holmes is Sherlock) role has been reviled. He'll be playing Tycho Nestoris (banker representing the Iron Bank of Braavos).

Pretty small role in the books but one that can definitely be bulked up for the TV series.

wow... NEVER would have guessed that, mostly because Tycho doesn't appear till Dance with Dragons

Yeah it was a bit of a surprise. I heard his schedule was pretty tight so he might only be in a couple of scenes this seasons. I wouldn't be shocked if he had a larger role in the last 2 books.

Aye fair enough, maybe they're just laying a bit of groundwork now, then when FfC and DwD get smooshed together he'll have a few more scenes and then from what we know so far he'll play a part in WoW... Let hope he's a character worthy of the actor they got for him .

The further the show progresses the more it deviates from the flow of the books. I fully expect s4 to be pulling in some key events from book 5 at this point.
Which makes sense to a degree as books 4 and 5 happen concurrently and the show is already hitting book 4 content here and there.

As for Gatiss, I think he's a great choice for Tycho. It's not a big character, or really a key character, but there's a lot of weight of inference and situation coming from him.

I just hope next season would have a wee bit better pacing. Last season had far too many characters to cover tbh, giving them all fairly little time for progression. :x

Well season 4 is the rest of book 3 but they might still pull some stuff in from books 4 and 5. As you say though Books 4 and 5 happen concurrently so I expect season 5 to be a good mix of books 4 and 5.
