why wouldnt anyone with a 64-bit OS wanna switch for a 64-bit wow client?
This is the real question here.
Even if it offered only a slightly better performance, imo it's worth it to waste a small amount of time to dl and install the new client.
After all, you're going to be spending much more time in-game, so it's an efficient investment.
- Looks like they took him to some bolt hole in the Wounded Coast.
- I wonder if it's near the Injured Cliffs? Or the Limping Hills? Massive-Head-Trauma-Bay? No? Just me? *sigh* Forget I said anything.
So, if I have 16gb of RAM and a 32bit Windows, 12gb are wasted, because Windows can't handle that amount of RAM.
If I have 16gb of RAM and a 64bit Windows it is able to allocate all of it.
Now the question: If I use a 32bit WOW, why would changing to 64bit have any advantage in terms of RAM-usage.
My thoughts on that: Windows can allocate all my 16gb, and if I have 12gig allocated by other programs, WOW32bit would still be able to receive the last 4gb since Windows is allocating the RAM and not WOW.
Since my WOW won't use more than 4gb (it hardly could manage) why exactly would changing to WOW64bit bring any advantage regarding RAM-Allocation?
Don't know if I could make myself clear.
Excuse my english btw, slighty drunk and maybe messing up some things regarding the RAM-stuff.
put very simply:
because it's the program that asks for and uses the memory, not the OS that and as far as I remember windows has a different API for 64 bit.

I get your point, but maybe I didn't get it right: Wouldn't WOW only take advantage if it asked for more than 4gb of RAM (what would never happen)?
