    Free antivirus

are antivurses like avg and malware bytes reliable and free at the same time? because im thinking of gettig a SYX SG-103 Gaming PC - Intel Core i7 2600 3.4 GHz, Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64 Bit, 1GB Nvidia GTX 550 Ti, 8GB DDR3, 1TB 7200rpm HDD, 15in1 Card Reader, USB 3.0, FREE Shogun Total War download from tigerdirect and i dont wanna spend more than it alrdy is, also will that pc gimme bang for my buck and last me through college which i will be starting in roughly a year

sorry for typos on iphone at work

Some of the best anti-viruses are free to use. Personally, I use Microsoft Security Essentials for real-time monitoring, and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for removal. I will likely never use a paid for anti-virus for my home PC ever again.

Edit: That PC is fairly good, there are some things you could potentially change, but for a pre-built you can't ask for much better. However, you haven't given us a price, so it is hard to say whether or not it is a good "bang for your buck". It will last you for several years, but it certainly won't be top of the line when you graduate from college.

I use Avast free edition and Spybot Search and Destroy also free. They work great together, never had any problems.

I've had Avast for years now, I have yet to get a single virus (and I don't surf with caution, I click whatever-the-fuck I want even if I know it isn't safe (while I haven't gotten a virus, Avast blocks my connection because it catches one wanting to enter my PC frequently))

I used Avast for long time and works great , had some bugs and wont update and switched to Microsoft Security Essentials.

If ya download Avast , set it on silent mode so it wont bug ya when it updating

I've been using AVG Free for the past 5 years or so and I've really never had any problems with it. No matter if it's a paid or free antivirus nothing will give you 100% protection. Always make sure your antivirus is up to date and watch what you click on or download.

No it doesn't. The card you are using has GDDR5, which means it's ram designed for graphics cards specifically.

this may explain it better however:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GDDR5 and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR3_SDRAM

Also, any particular reason you're going with a 2600 processor or just going with what you saw?

No. Use Avira or whatever else you can get, but never Microsoft Security Essentials. It's like hammering broken nails with a broken hammer. Or something like that.

I ask because the 2600 has hyper threading which games don't make any use of. You could probably find a similar build with a 2500 and save some cash and see no difference in performance.

The price difference from 2600 to a 2500 is around 100.
