Any clue what is happening to my PC?

A few months ago I installed a new Harddrive (just has WoW and steam installed on it. But, it isn't really screwed in, just sitting at the bottom of my case) and a new Videocard (GTX 460) as an upgrade for my PC.

Now, a few weeks ago I started noticing every now and then my monitor would flicker off, like it was losing its signal from the PC (not actually going off, just losing the signal). I only ever noticed it when I was playing wow, but it didn't seem like much of a problem because it happened just every once in a blue moon. But today, it seemed to really go crazy. While I was playing WoW, it was almost like my screen was having some kind of seizure. It was flickering on it off and sometimes going white. Textures in wow started really getting screwed up and tearing, and my UI just all of the sudden seemed all screwed up. I could see like multiple actions bars and it was tilted and such. I don't know how else to describe it, but I can tell that it was probably a problem with my computer and not wow. After a couple minutes, it went back to normal and I got DCed from Wow. A few seconds before it happened, I heard a weird beep from my computer and started noticing some video lag.

Does anyone have any clue what this could be? It was just so strange to me and like nothing I had experienced before. I know it could be a problem with my video card, but I haven't noticed anything like this outside of WoW. Could it be my new hard drive is failing? I just restarted my computer and will see if anything like it happens again so I can give better details.

Get GPU-Z and report back with the temp of the card

system specs? Full hardware list would be nice (PSU, ram, cpu, gpu, case)

I'm suspecting overheating of the GPU primarily.

could be a bad video card, but check the video cable first, make sure its not loose, or frayed

run GPU-Z while gaming, and note temps while it is happening. A fresh reboot will generally give you a nice cool temp.

wouldn't be surprised if it's overheating, especially if you live in the midwest or East Coast of America, where there's been a massive heat wave lately.

Haha yes, I live in Texas. Haven't gone under about 95 in the past few weeks. Also haven't restarted my computer in the past few weeks either. I didn't even think about the overheating. I really appreciate the help guys, I'm kind of a computer noob.

I will play wow for a little bit and watch the temperature.

run prime 95 for 30 minutes and before you shut it down, open GPU-Z and screenshot the thermals again. being at 6% load @ 40C is fine, a little high but fine, just relink if it's above 80C+ you're most likely having heat issues. also with that HDD you have sitting around at the least screw it in somewhere so the PCB on the bottom doesnt hit something randomly and fry the drive and maybe other parts. I've screwed a HDD onto the bracket for a front fan before just to keep it off the floor of the case.

    Probably overheating.

Another thing. It's unlikely, but when was the last time you updated the drivers for your videocard?

I downloaded prime95 and selected what looked like the balanced test and hit OK. Just to be 100% sure though, is it testing? It says test 2 now, so I figure it is, but I am not sure. This is what it looks like:

Not sure if your card does it, but a friend had an issue with his video card, found out when he installed it he never took off that clear plactic wrap they put over the bottom of the card. It caused similar issues, also there could be a possible short, was the installer grounded when they installed the card?

Also something to take into concideration is the kind of power going into it, might be an issue with that as well

If at all possible can u swap to ur old card and see if the problem persists?

I am going to wait until tomorrow and see if the problem occurs between now and then. Tomorrow I will open up the case and clean everything and make sure everything is connected. I installed the card a couple months ago, and am pretty sure I was grounded.

If the problem keeps occurring I will swap my old card (if I can find it) and see if anything happens.
