Didnt you see the new transformers movie ? :O
There's no real reason to send people there, all the research they need can be done remotely.
There is nothing important to do on the moon for a person, that can't be done by a remote controlled drone.
Lack of funding and it's very dangerous as so much can go wrong. The main reason the Space Shuttle has retired is because of how dangerous it is and the fatalities it caused. Is it really worth all those unwanted deaths just to say we can do it?
I'd rather the funding be spent else where for now, unless it would be beneficial to the human race.
Because, like so many other ambitious projects in our country....lack of focus. Why did the united states never go back to the moon?
Put on yer tin foil hats folks its them outer space aliens I hear is up there and they told us we'd better not be coming back or they'd have our asses!
On a serious note, It's almost pointless to go back however, I believe there will be trips to the moon in the future that will cost about 100k$
I agree. Space travel will develop exponentially once private industry takes interest. You know what would be 1000x faster though? If Obama told the military that the Andromeda system had WMDs. We'd be living in Star Trek within the decade.
Actually, knowing America it'd be more like WH40k...
I'm waiting for us to colonize the moon and make underground warrens to hydroponically grow wheat to supply the ever growing population of earth, and turning it into a penal colony before the Lunies decide to throw off the yoke of earth and revolt (/Robert Heinlein).

Just watch Apollo 18 when it comes out next week .
You will know EVERYTHING.
It's expensive as all bloody hell, and there is nothing to gain for anyone by doing so other than giving a couple people the experience of a lifetime.
