the starter evos, binacle hawlucha, the bunnys evo and gloom.

thats like 6 out of like 100 - 150+

what is mega evolution like? does it take up a turn like when you use an item? is it much of a boost? can you do it every battle? can you revert the change during battle? does changing your pokemon end the effect?

if your pokemon is holding a mega stone you will have a big button on the bottom screen, you can use it anytime you want and it doesnt take up a turn, you can only have one mega evo per battle, the boost is different for every pokemon for some its pretty much just a stat increase for others its more like a rearrangement, some gain types and abilities some dont. as far as i know you cant revert the change although it probably doesn't persist through death so if it dies and you use a revive it may come back as a normal pokemon although it might i dont think weve seen a mega be revived in battle yet.

also for the moment there are no generation 6 megas, its only a old pokemon thing.

although they are probably just saving them for pokemon z/ x and y 2

Assuming he even payed for it in the first place, any store with a modern POS system has the street dates in the system making it physically impossible to sell the item before the launch date.
