New GPU: 2 options - Halp!

Yeah so I'm sitting here thinking about what GPU to buy

    My two options are

    1. XFX Radeon HD6950 2048MB

    2. Gigabyte GeForce GTX 560 Ti 1024MB OC

The price diffrence is about 70 euro (Radeon being the more expensive one). I'll be playing on one screen at 1920x1280 and from what I can tell, the Radeon is just better by a small margine unless you play on more then 1 screen?

    Whats your thoughts?

Just buy the 560Ti if it's cheaper, you won't really notice a different.

Each card pulls slightly ahead of one another in different games.

In general, I prefer the HD6950, but if it is more expensive, even by €5 and you don't intend to play in tri-monitor setup, there is really no point.

    Go with the GTX560 Ti

Wait till January. Nvidia is releasing their 600 series. Directx 12 support, Pci 3.0 support. Just wait man.

Nothing has been confirmed. Last major news I saw insinuated that the first low level GPUs wouldn't be available til April, and even then they probably wouldn't be available to consumers. With all the production problems at TSMC NVIDIA has pushed back any dates and has gone surprisingly mum on the discussion. I'd really be surprised if you can pick up a 6xx for a build by this time next year.

Between a 6950 and a 560Ti, I'd personally go with the 560. They are basically the same performance wise, so the cheaper one will always win in my book.

I'm sure the 600 will come with a hefty price tag at launch as well. Not to mention the OPs hardware may not be compatible to run it.

GTX 560 Ti, in your case. 2GB of VRAM on the GPU is more than you'll need for that monitor.

The 560ti runs better in some games
the 6950 runs better in some games

I prefer NVidia for driver support, and CUDA is very widely supported. Folding, better rendering, etc.

Well, your only difference is going to be between $100-$200. I think its worth it. The card will be good for years and more compatible for windows 8 being released next october. I believe their 690 is around $600.
