The main thing that attracted kids to Alliance early on was perhaps the human race choice and Empire can be humans. No kids care about order and restraint; they want to raise hell and get rewarded for doing so.
I also want to point out that the republic has no association with modern day republicans. If any side more closely resembled our current republican party it would be the empire. The modern day republican party is also drastically different than what the founders had in mind, but I shall not go in details further on a TOR site.
The side with the largest population is most likely also the side with the most "kiddies" and "baddies". Popular choice is nothing more than a good indicator of where the sheep will be. I do not want to be on that side - whichever side it is.

I'm glad Empire will be the "popular" choice. All the trolls and retards can stay on that side, far far away from my Republic.

I'm very curious as to where that 10.41% undecided will go. ANd I'm also glad to see that the faction imbalance isn't all that bad, at least it could be a heck of a lot worse, but within 15% is decent.

I plan on playing both sides for obvious reasons.
I chose Empire though because I definitely want to start out with an Imperial Agent (so rad!). I don't even plan on being "Sith" really, definitely going to follow my own story. Just the IA is so awesome I cannot resist!
They do allow narcissistic independent folks right?

The Empire does not want rebels. They want sheep that follow orders. Rebels are exactly what the Empire does not want (flash forward to 4-6). If the majority of players are Empire then playing Republic will be the rebellious choice, which is ironic because that is pretty much how the rebel forces began - Empire control. All said and done, from my experiences, the server that you play on and its players will determine faction control. I am sure there will be Republic dominated servers as well as Empire. Same as with WoW.I like sandwiches

Empire, for the sole fact that I enjoyed playing on the dark side a lot more in my many playthroughs of Kotor 1 & 2. Will most probably try out Republic too at some point.
