My DPS seems quite inconsistent. The other hunter in our group is right on my heels most of the time despite being SV. Is it RNG, bad play or a mix?

This is the first time since WOTLK where I feel I'm really missing something and am not confident about my DPS.

You were not really doing anything wrong, it's just that it's kinda tough to get Chimera shot to do it's cleave damage on that fight. In order for it to cleave, targets have to be pretty close together. Most strats on that boss I've done have the bosses stacked up close, but not close enough for Chimera shot to cleave. Not to mention that fight has a lot of movement which can make it tough to keep ST up. SV can move and dps basically without any penalty of any kind so that may have contributed to the closeness of your dps as well.

Quick Disclaimer: this is for a guildie of mine, I know nothing about hunters or their rotations, I know they are quite strong and should be pulling more than 12k dps. He has been asking for help, I think he uses noxxic but I'm not sure. I don't really know where to send him mainly because my hunter is only level 93 and I just play him as an alt so I do very little research on hunter dps. I know we have 2 other hunters that are pulling pretty good numbers and he's been working pretty hard to try and get better. I know he switched from BM to Marksman recently. He was a tank previously and as far as I know he doesn't have much experience dpsing(?).

If you guys could help him that would be great, I'll probably send him here. Are there any resources he should be checking out other than Icy-Veins/Mmo-champ forums? Any dedicated hunter websites?

It's my first time using warcraftlogs, but as far as I could see he didn't die on Karg and compared to one of your other hunters he just has way less casts of everything (esp. Chim shot and steady shot). He should always be casting something.

He is not using his abilities. He didn't cast Chimaera Shot for 4 Minutes!!! and thats our mainspell. And in my opinion he should get the crit enchantsments instead of the multistrike ones. I have 27% crit unbuffed with worse gear and he only got like 20%.
Agi > Crit > Multistrike
Using Chimeara Shot on cd is extremly important, tell him to use it everytime he can.

Also he should use Rapid Fire right at pull instead of 17 seconds in. While the target is above 80% health a hunter gains 60% critchance so he should use all his cd's at the start of the fight.

Butcher:
Me in 646 did 23,264 DPS and you in 654 did 23,319 DPS.

Difference in the two fights:
Mine is 12 seconds longer, which should not have a major impact.

Kill shot useable
Mine: 35% = 31.967.738,25 = 2.29 minutes in = 1 minute and 11 seconds of kill shot
Yours: 35% = 21.136.893,75 = 2.25 minutes in = 1 minute and 3 secons of kill shot

Difference between us that matter:
I have 3 more chimaera shots then you.
You didn't use your potion together with your second Rapid fire and despite the better gear and LDSC you only peaked at ~53k, where I peaked at 56k. We both had very similar TotH procs during both Rapid Fires,
You also have some parts where you are dipping down to 8k DPS after the boss is below 35%, where the lowest I go is 16k DPS, which seems odd that you are falling that low. My single target sims (Now in 652 gear) doesn't fall below ~18k after the boss has reached 35% either, so it would appear something is happening in your rotation that shouldn't happen.

Not sure if you want individual fights, but you can look at them all. I feel like I'm not doing as much dps as I could be. On Butcher I'm responsible for moving in and out of a group. I'm also verrrrry crappy with simcraft, so I don't actually know what I'm supposed to be pulling. (Yes, the 2 pvp pieces are part of my PvE gear)

Also, the other hunter in my raid needs help as well, so I'll chuck this just below

I might miss some stuff but here's whatI got out of your brackenspore :

You only used 1 pot and you delayed your rapidfire until lust so you didn't benefit as much from trinkets / or pot during aimed shot spams
Your sniper training uptime could be higher
You missed uptime on rejuvinating spores during the first blue mushroom you had up
barrage is much better than glaive toss on that fight due to the amount of multiple targets

I'll make sure that she uses both pots and rapid fire from the start.

Most pulls have a 29-30 possible chim shots...and I hit most of those, only missing 2-4 at most.

Fight length: 5 minutes and 6 seconds = 306 seconds. But you died 4 minutes and 26 seconds in (286 seconds), this obviously has a negative effect on your DPS due to less kill shots.

Several issues as far as I see:
Chimaera: 286 seconds / 9 seconds = ~32.7, but getting it exactly off CD can be a bit difficult, so let us just say roughly 31. You had 28, that's a total of 4.7 you missed from perfect play.

Kill shot: 35% is hit roughly 202 seconds in, that gives 84 seconds of kill shots, which should be 16 kill shots. You had 10, that means you missed 6, which is quite a fair amount.

You used potion outside Rapid fire, but instead used it with bloodlust. Not entirely sure what is best, but I can see in your case, you would have been able to use both with BL and then Rapid fire afterwards, if you had delayed the pot. Might have been more beneficial, but not 100% sure.

Also you got no TotH together with your initial Rapid Fire, this obviously hurts your DPS by quite a margin.

Your focused also hit 120 twice, and were at 120 for 4 seconds the second time., which obviously is not 100% perfect.

To me there are some issues, but the earlier death lowers your overall DPS, since you going to miss a fair amount of kill shots. The other points all adds up to a lower DPS then expected/wanted.

Be kind, when keeping in mind that this was a mythic progression kill, andn I was being super careful with not getting hit by anything, since 90% of the crap there will kill you instantly. Uptime on ST is for me is usually in the 90-100% for other bosses.

I need to work on having enough focus to use abiltiies the moment they come off CD, i know that for sure.

Missing 6 chimera shots is honestly what hurts you the most. None of your focus was wasted, so that's very good. If you are having trouble with having enough focus to use chimera shot on cooldown, don't use aimed shot quite as much. Overall, for a hectic fight like that, id say that your already in good shape.

Currently I'm just progressing through heroic so it's not a big deal. I've been looking around trying to figure out how I can get the most out of my DPS, but I feel like I need some more outside help.
One thing I know I have problems with is combining Aimed shot and Chim shot together, even when Chim shot is off CD, but I've been making improvements.

Really simple... compare you to the top hunter in your raid. Almost the same # of chimera shots, but you had almost half his aimed shots. #1 rule as marksman: NEVER. STOP. CASTING. You should at any given time ALWAYS be doing something. If you are low on focus, steady shot... high on focus, aimed shot. Do not sit there for a second because chimera shot is coming off CD. ALWAYS DO SOMETHING. ALWAYS.
