New Item to Mitigate Stygia Loss in the Maw

It makes sense that the Maw walkers should learn how to mitigate that as well. So with a hotfix that is now live on all realms, we’ve:

  • Added a new reward to Archivist Roh-Suir’s vendor list that will reduce players’ Stygia loss in The Maw by 75%.

The new item is called Treatise: Bonds of Stygia in Mortals, and it’s available at tier 4 with The Archivists’ Codex.

If we're grinding to codex rank 4 it'd be nice if it was complete negation of the stygia loss instead of just 75%.

Imagine grinding for Tier 4 just so you can grind more efficiently in a different area

Just remove it FFS. An added punishment for doing content that's mostly a chore to do anyhow makes no sense

Yep. The punishment makes thematic sense if we got caught in a place where we're not supposed to be. It makes no sense in a post 9.1 world.

What changed in 9.1 that changed how stygia worked storywise? Stygia wasn't being stolen, it was being left behind with the remnants of your body.

It's kinda stupid to lose thousands to accidental jump deaths and such. -75% just seems like a 'we can't code something better at the moment'. This penaly should've been totally removed along with the 'eye' mechanic.

This sums up Blizzards tone deafness.

"Here is this system that screws you over for no improvement to the game"

"Here is this item we added for you to earn that reduces how much you get screwed over in said situation"..

If you needed to add such an item then just remove the system from the game. The fact that it takes them months for any sort of iteration and they won't fix their mistakes is so annoying, no wonder nobody can be assed to go back and play 9.1

    finally thanks you

Still a stupid system, now we give you the opportunity to grind your way to purchasing a thing to make the system 75% less stupid. VERY typical Blizzard, completely out of touch to what is actually fun. Grind, grind, grind, punish, time gate to keep those sub active.

Nothing like accumulating a limited resource on a daily basis just to lose a chunk of it on death... Dark Souls this ain't!!

Blizzard killing their game harder - instead of removing the stygia loss they make you waste an enormous amount of a resource to reduce how bad it is.

We want more good not less bad.

Also this second painsmith nerf was not necessary - after wiping 30+ times last week on painsmith normal I one-shot it in a pug this reset. This was one of the most fun encounters mainly because it was hard regardless of ilvl. Nerfing the mechanics (overlap timings etc) just makes it all about ilvl and thus a grind which is less fun. I also think world first guilds should be wiping 100+ times on hard bosses as they're undergeared for it on release.

Useless item, you don't die in the maw if your IQ isn't as high as the room temperature.

If they remove it then they'll just have you run back to your back. One of the reasons you drop Stygia is because your body respawns at the GY.

So you for the most part (like the new WB) you can either:

    A) Run back and get your Stygia back in a crowded area - Current Method
    B) Run from the GY, respawn and possibly die again due to mob placement - If they completely remove it.

Both methods have their ups and downs. The upside with -75% less is that it makes it easier to decide if you want to go back and get it. I haven't died yet, but if I drop something like 500 (out of the old 2000) it'd be a lot less tempting to go back and get it depending on where it is. Though in reality, I'll go back and grab it regardless.

See above, the system does add improvement to the game for a lot of people. The benefit is that you don't have to run back to your body. Some people use it as a quick teleport around the zone if their Ve'nari port is down or they wanted to go a different direction.

Does the added improvement benefit everyone? Likely not, but there is some time of improvement / trade off to it.

I wouldn't call 1000 Relics an "enormous amount of resource". That's all it takes and you can passively hit Rank 4 pretty easily, especially since you can "cheat" your way to Rank 4 quicker by being able to pick up the Rank 3 and 4 relics at earlier ranks if you use someone else's teleporter key or the ones you pick up from activities along with a rift key.

With that said, I wouldn't mind seeing it at lower ranks but it isn't that back and still doesn't take an "enormous amount".

Losing part of what you were grinding for to get you to sub longer, no wonder this games dying and FF14 is kicking its butt.

Do you even play the content? There are so many bugs in the Maw its unreal, most deaths are through no fault of your own (Don't press the exit button on the caravan while in motion for instance! When assaults are up, grappling randomly punts you into the abyss and your corpse can subsequently spawn in mid-air or inaccessible places) Doing the new world boss in a LFG (or any other Maw quest/content)? If you die on the encounter and the group disbands, guess what? In summary, stop talking nonsense. When any of the above happens and you lose +7000 Stygia, you will change your tune (before you act like a tool, I managed to retrieve it using the help of some mates and some class abilities!)

AOE looting being able to pick the dropped Stygia up would be a big step, it would at least help when you get the mid-air/off-map bug with your corpse

    Introducing.... the meta-grind.

If you're at least Friendly with Death's Advance, buy Korthian Armaments to "store" most of your Stygia while doing dangerous Maw content such as the world boss. Of course, don't forget to sell them back before the 2h buyback timer runs out.

If only they had an item to mitigate loss of interest in the game.
